The Rise Of Bernie Sanders Has Turned The Democratic Party Upside Down

Bernie Sanders real time

It isn’t a coincidence that as Bernie Sanders is being forced to move to a bigger New Hampshire campaign headquarters due to increasing popularity, Democrats are actively searching for more serious candidates to enter the 2016 field.

The Sanders campaign is so popular in New Hampshire that they have to move to a bigger headquarters. Kurt Ehrenberg, the New Hampshire coordinator for the Sanders campaign, told The Washington Post, “We’re ramping up our campaign. We’re hiring new staff every day. We’re opening new offices. Things are going extremely well….Our volunteers don’t just want to come out and see the candidate. They actually want to work for Bernie because Bernie instills this terrific enthusiasm in them.”

While Sanders continues to grow both organizationally and attendance wise, other Democrats see Hillary Clinton as a vulnerable frontrunner and are worried about what the Sanders rise might mean for November 2016.

Some Democrats are clearly fishing for another established candidate to enter the Democratic race. There was a brief flirtation around Al Gore, but that was quickly squashed. Most of the serious chatter is coming from supporters of Vice President Biden.

Legendary journalist Carl Bernstein told CNN that the people he is talking to were suggesting that if Joe Biden runs he may promise only to serve one term.

Bernstein said CNN’s New Day:

The big beneficiary of this environment, this changing environment is Joe Biden if he chooses to enter the race. He’s looking at it right now. His people believe he may do it. Some say yes, some say no. But the distrust factor with Hillary Clinton, the whole Trump excitement and bubble that will probably burst gives a great opportunity to Biden to capture the imagination of the press, of this race, of Democrats who don’t want to see Hillary Clinton, who are worried about the distrust factor with her.

And one thing that I keep hearing about Biden is that if he were to declare and say because age is such a problem for him if he does, I want to be a one-term president. I want to serve for four years, unite Washington. I’ve dealt with the Republicans in Congress all my public life. I think there’s a conversation going on to that effect among his aides and friends. It could light fire to the current political environment.

The idea that Biden could mitigate the age issue by promising only to serve one term is more fantasy than reality. From a practical point of view, the one-term promise would probably work against Biden by making his age a central issue in the campaign. The younger Republican nominee could respond to Biden’s promise by committing to running for two terms and guaranteeing stability in the White House.

None of this conversation would be happening without the rise of Bernie Sanders. Sen. Sanders has turned the Democratic Party on its ear by building a grassroots movement that is based on a take no prisoners populist economic message.

The rise of Sanders has Democrats looking for a backup plan in case Hillary Clinton struggles, and a Democratic primary that the media was worried would be boring has become infinitely more intriguing than the Trump dominated Republican snoozefest.

  1. Bernie, Hilary….as long as it’s a Democrat, I don’t care. Well, I do care, as long as it isn’t a Blue Dog!

Bernie is no longer a underdog, he’s a serious contender. It’s not wise for Democrats to enter fantasyland and deny this. Fantasyland belongs to the Republicans, not Liberals

  2. I guess you have a point when she has to answer every made up bullshit that in the end, it even don’t compare to a shit sandwich because the village wants drama and the stupid eats it up

  3. In what strange universe does Biden’s entry into the mix guarantee his nomination? In fact I think that Biden would syphon Hillary supporters and leave the road to the nomination wide open to Sanders.

  4. I thought this was an article about the popularity of Bernie Sanders and what he stands for. People are finally realizing that they have been bent over and getting screwed since 2008 and longer. Biden is just another Corporate Democrat.
    Bernie Sanders 2016.

  5. Part of the reason that Bernie is gaining on Hillary is that Bernie speaks truth to working people and does not take Corporate and Wall Street money. He is not a paid political lobbyist of the unregulated Banks. People are sick of politicians and the lying media. We are not as stupid as DC seems to think we are. We want our democracy back.

  6. I think that the people in the dem base are ready for Bernie. The corp dem on wall street and big pharma and banking systems see his plan to jack up their taxes as a huge threat. The issues he talks about are issues that concern the middle and lower classes.
It’s time for the rich to give back! That’s what Bernie is saying and that’s why his message is sinking in. People are hearing it because owing $100,000 decades after you grad college is just wrong.

  7. I don’t understand why Democrats would be worried if Senator Sanders wins the nomination. He’d by far make a better President than any of the clowns the GOP is running and his platform seems extremely popular with a lot of people. Trump has suggested that he and Sanders are the only ones with large crowds. He’s comparing his 2000 or so to Senator Sanders 20,000 or so.

  8. Bernie Sanders has caucused with the Democrats, even though he is an Independent. He is gaining in popularity and polls. He speaks for the American people, and is being recognized for it. How can a man who speaks for the people be turning a party upside down? Both the Democrats and Republicans are suppose to be for the people… Personally, I hope Biden, and Gore for that matter enter the race to create a stronger debate for Senator Sanders. More competition is better for him in the end. Hillary’s 2007 example of debating won’t help Sanders’ case simply because she can’t take a solid position. Go Bernie Sanders for President!

  9. reynardine, you nailed it imo.

All beltway seems very confused. Politicians, media, everyone.

D.C. can’t seem to grasp that we mean business and intend to do something about it.

It seems only Bernie Sanders is talking about Wall St. STILL, and those who benefit from Wall St. simply dumbfounded that we’re on to them.

Of course idiot Republicans are down to the Klu Klux Klan, religiously insane, and corporations as their base and cracks are showng in corps relationship.

Climate change, mass extinctions, middle class, Citizens United – not to mention bailouts, Iraq, and the ruling class can’t figure it out.

    Amazing. Simply amazing.

I’m done voting lesser of two evils. Bernie’s my guy. Let the chips fall.

  10. I beg to differ. Sen. Sanders has not turn the Democratic party around because as of yet the true base of the party has not been coming around to him.

Really its not his fault because he is a good man and speaks to all of us. But his supporters, that’s a different story.

Watch this. You’ll laugh at first. And then the pit of your stomach will empty at the realization of the dark truth it reveals.

  11. Its more a worry that he could lose to the conservatives… then a worry that he won’t make a good president.

I’m a Hillary supporter, and while i think that Bernie would make a great (if less great then Hillary) president, i don’t think he has as good a chance at beating the conservatives as she does.

Of course, if Trump manages to win the red nomination, none of this will matter and Bernie will be just as electable as Hillary.

  12. I express doubt as to the intention of this article.

Is someone attempting to create dissention among Democrats? Why fabricate what Biden “could” do or say?

Sounds to me as though someone is putting out feelers.

  13. “The rise of Sanders has Democrats looking for a backup plan in case Hillary Clinton struggles”

Wouldn’t Sanders be the backup plan? Am I missing something here?

  14. You’re worried if Bernie is the nominee he would lose to a GOP Candidate. If Bernie Sanders became the nominee, people would come out in DROVES for Bernie. They KNOW that he is NOT bought. People that NEVER voted before would vote for Bernie. They would know that this is their LAST chance to get someone in the white house that will work for THEM and not just the 1%. Bernie is OUR FDR 2.0. We just need to make sure WE THE PEOPLE give him a house and senate that he can work with. I’m also confident that if Bernie became President he would not waste 2 years house/senate democratic majority on a bull crap health care bill that has no public option/single payer but make sure taxes on the rich/wall street were raised for massive infrastructure and free college, etc. Bernie strikes me as a doer. Obama was a talker not so much of a doer.

  15. Also because HRC is BOUGHT and PAID FOR as well as ALL GOP candidates. Bernie is the ONLY one that is NOT bought. He talks about issues people want addressed and he’s REAL. HRC and GOP are as real as a 3 dollar bill and people know it.

  16. Maxie, you should care VERY much. HRC is BOUGHT and does not care about you or any of us. It’s a fact. Why continue to vote for yet ANOTHER bought and paid for and HOPE things will be different this time around. That’s INSANE! If people vote in the primary and vote for Bernie Sanders, Bernie will WIN. If not, it’s another 4-8 years of Bullsh** mountain.

  17. Hillary or Sanders, either one is fine by me.

  18. Nice job of backing up the headline today “Bush Says Democratic Party In Dissarray” It would appear that your headline is no different. The Democrats have always had primaries with several candidates and I don’t ever recall a liberal site slandering our party like your headline does. It’s bad enough when Republicans like Bush take the lead in this lie, but when Politicususa comes out with the same type of headline I gotta wonder if you too are trying to cause division in our party. No, Al Gore is not going to run, and Joe Biden is considering running. I say let the chips fall where they may, and I will vote for the Democratic nominee whoever it may be..is that “upside down” enough for you??

  19. Rick, the Dems are worried because if Sanders wins they know their gravy train of Wall Street money, etc. is O-V-E-R. They know with HRC that gravy train will continue and we the people will continue to get lied to and screwed over.

  20. So if the Dems cant raise money and the republicans have their billionaire sugar daddies because of citizens united exactly how does that work?

  21. What Gravy Train?

A lot of us Dems got just as screwed out of investments as you indies.

    You’re blowing smoke.

  22. So you’re claiming that if Bernie wins, then the Republican contrariness will magically go away?

    Push the other one.

  23. I do know what is real.

    1) Republicans LOATHE Hillary.

    2) Not voting for a Hillary who has gotten the Primary Nod- means that Republicans will win.

    3) A republican president means- we will need to grab our ankles.

  24. Hell one can say in her short term in the Senate Clinton did more than Sanders did in 25 years in congress and the senate

  25. Who exactly is saying that Sanders isn’t a serious candidate? The author? Someone he talked to? He seems pretty serious to me. Otherwise, you wouldn’t be talking about him.

  26. If Bernie is a “doer” as you say, it does not seem show in his Senate record. He has sponsored three (3) bills that have become law; two (2) of those were to rename Post Office buildings.

Hillary Clinton had twenty nine (29) sponsored bills that became law bty.

Bernie has been in the Senate about eight (8) years as was Hillary.

  27. They don’t get it. Bernie is doing well because he is not an establishment candidate, not just because he is not Hillary Clinton. He tells the truth, which is why the Dems in the pockets of the corporations who support their campaigns find him so scary. Why don’t they just embrace a guy who can clearly win == because he says what he thinks without putting his foot in his mouth. With apologies to Joe Biden. No one except a bunch of out of touch Washington insiders have Joe Biden in mind.

  28. I agree about Bernie & turnout but please don’t divde Dems. We need every vote. President Obama has accomplished unbelievable amounts considering the unprecedented obstruction mounted against him. Bernie will face the same thing. It started out as racist but GOP sees how effective their obstruction has been and will continue it until they are trampled into the dust of history.

  29. A significant advantage that the Democratic Party has is that when they take positions to appeal to their base, it helps them in the general election: higher minimum wage; more universal health care — these have something like 70% support among all voters.

Hopefully Bernie’s campaign will help Hillary realize this.

  30. I agree. The intent is to list possible challenges to Sanders of he takes Hillary out.

Biden is more a threat to Hillary than to Sanders. The Sanders Party is not interested in Establishment Democrats.

  31. The only vote of hers that I disagree with was the Iraq vote now other than that show me and her funding? Child please when you ready to eat at the adult table then come talk tome

  32. Another Sanders article that talks more about anything but Bernie. Getting tired of it although at least they mentioned him.

  33. Bernie is the only candidate that is refusing corporate hand outs. Even his democrat rivals are all taking large sums of money from corporations and banks. Hillary’s top 10 donors are all banks. Banks that got bailed out 6 years ago and want to have the president in their pocket for the next time they crash the economy. On the right you see lists of donors that are almost entirely big oil, military industrial, and corporations that have outsourced as much work as possible to over seas to escape our minimum wage and human rights laws. Bernie is dead set against crony capitalism which is getting him support even from the right who see their own candidates as just more big business puppets. On top of that he wants reforms that bring us back up to speed with the rest of the first world nations in education, health care, and median wage. All areas which we are being utterly destroyed in.

  34. I think you nailed it – “voting less of two evils”. I’m sick of it too. Bernie is my guy, and I think he is the American people’s guy, they just don’t know it yet.

Either Hillary or Bernie in the WH would be better than republican snake-oil, but with Bernie we get a chance to elect a president that owes US, the human beings of this country, not Lehman Brothers or BP or any corporate faux “people”.

I don’t understand this article either, unless they need a backup “bought-and-paid-for” candidate for Hillary instead of Bernie.

  35. Lets see if he takes that stance if he wins the general. I doubt it because if he wants to win I doubt you bernbots can raise enough money to counter the kochsuckers. SMDH at this idiocy

  36. “is based on a take no prisoners populist economic message.”

I don’t get this. I am from Switzerland and a lot of positions Sanders stands for had been implemented here long ago. Switzerland isn’t known as a socialist country. Other successful countries like Denmark, Norway or Sweden go much further.

American middle-class people don’t even know what they are missing and how it could be. I recommend to read the following:
    http://www.vox.com/2015/7/21/8974435/switzerland-work-life-balance

  37. Oh this was a ploy to start an argument and throw childish insults. And here I wasted all that time writing a serious answer.

  38. When are pundits going to realize that ‘grassroots’ is a synonym for ‘voters?’

They talk as if that surging interest among the grassroots is some distraction–a ‘bubble that will probably burst,’ instead of the One Basic Thing that any successful political campaign needs to achieve.

  39. Sadly, we’re seeing a LOT of this in the mainstream press lately = the better he does, the more they try to tear him down. If it wasn’t so scary it would be sad. Bernie is drawing the crowds and gaining momentum – even among *gasp* REPUBLICANS (look at the turn out in ‘red states’) He’s no spoiler’ and a real viable choice as a successor to President Obama….

  40. What was childish? Do you not understand how this works? For all the talk of President Obama grassroot support the majority of his money came from the big bad money men/women. If you seriously think that whoever wins the Democratic ticket can win in this age of citizens united without corporate money then I would suggest you check into rehab because you have been seeing too many unicorns

  41. True Reynardine. But if Election-16 Is TRUMP vs Sanders…many wealthy Democrats will vote for Trump.
Yes, Bernie IS speaking to the working class, yet, I promise you…
Bernie will scare away not only Republicans but upper middle-class Democrats!

We hear none of Bernie’s ideas on the National News. He is not touching the MIDDLE Whatsoever!

  42. Why ?

Because Senator Sanders has been building good will and been on the intelligent and decent side of issues for decades …and his views have been consistent.

He hasn’t had to ‘evolve’, or fess up to ‘mistakes’, or apologize.
Despite that, he is always dignified, but vigorous in his proclamation of truth.
You know …a real Statesman !

  43. I’m from MN too – and know that Franken is not interested at this time.

But be careful supporting Bernie, there are a few here who spend all of their waking hours on this site hijacking and espousing angst against Bernie.

You apparently can’t have a different opinion in their way of thinking.

I will support Bernie Sanders because he tells the TRUTH, and would not be a Wall Street whore.

But if he does not get the “D” nomination, I will be voting for the nominee of the party.

No Repug candidate should go near the White house for years, unless they are on tour or a guest of the Democrat holding the POTUS position.

  44. Biden will not get Sanders voters. He will only split Hillary voters. Sanders is our candidate. The establishment needs to get over it!

  45. Our candidate? Seeing that the majority of women, Asians, blacks and latinos are for Clinton right now who is this we? Snowdwen fanboys

  46. Maxie …Some of the same types people in the establishment and media were saying the same things about Barack Obama the week before the Iowa caucuses 2008, and even after.
“He can’t win”, “He’s too liberal”, “America will never vote for a Black man”.
Cold water crepe hangers. Most were said by Repukes pretending to be Democrats.

Unfortunately, some of these false memes get repeated by less than savvy Democrats at times.

  47. Oh no I am not. I ask you a legitimate question which you firebaggers since you lost your site infest other sites with your nonsense refuse to answer

  48. I say that because unlike in 2008 I see no organization. I see no plan on how to win delegates. And I see he has Tad Devine running his campaign. When I was Born it wasn’t last night

  49. The Sanders Party is not interested in Establishment Democrats.
    “““““““““““““““`
    That could be a miscalculation.
While I agree that I would EXPECT a Biden run to siphon off more voters from HRC, if a big chunk of Berniemania turns out to be really just alot of Dems who loathe Hillary, then having Biden jump in means Sanders support could effectively collapse.

  50. Democratic voters who loathe Hillary? Methinks your brain is fried from watching too much fox. BTW how is that Bengazziiii working out for you?

  51. Even holier than thou Russ Fiengold has seen the light
In his comeback bid this cycle, Feingold has acknowledged that it’s not 1992 anymore, and he hasn’t made the same pledge this time (though he’s still raised an impressive 46 percent of his funds so far from Wisconsinites):

Feingold said his past pledges “preceded this insanity of allowing corporations to have unlimited contributions…that is the context in which that promise was made. It makes no sense now in light of the fact that you have dark money coming in, in unlimited amounts that isn’t even disclosed. …There is no hypocrisy or dishonesty when a certain set of facts that existed in 1992 simply do not exist anymore.”
    http://www.jsonline.com/news/statepolitics/johnson-hits-feingold-for-dropping-past-fundraising-pledge-b99556775z1-321819341.html

  52. Ya know, I’m really struggling with the fact that you clearly don’t agree with everything I say.
It’s just mystifying, it’s annoying and it’s wrong.

And the line-up of potential D nominees looks like the cast from Cocoon.

    [WINK]

  53. Why I don’t agree with what you say? Umm maybe everything you have said on this blog has been wrong. From the ACA, Benghazi, the economy, President Obama just about everything. Because instead of looking at the facts you choose ideology.

Now the cast of dems may look like cocoon but the cast of the republican candidates look like One Flew OVER The Cookoo nest

  54. Huh? So let me get this right. You base your vote on who looks good instead of their ideas? May the good lawd give me some peace

  55. And Bernie is a Socialist Jew. That is going to get him elected in a General Election in which the Mitt Robney got 47% of the Vote?

  56. Biden & Gore contemplating a run is foolish for the Dems. I met many Reps (Seattle rally) backing Bernie. America is sick and tired of the Status Quo of threats, bickering and scare tactics! The voters are shouting loud and clear. Politicians need to get their heads out of the sand. The can’t be done IS being done, as happened in 2004.

  57. How exactly does an old, male, grumpy, Socialist Jew win the General?

In 2012 the Socialist Party got 7,791 votes while the Green Party got 469,628 votes.

Mitt Robmey got 60,933,500 votes and the Libertarian Johnson got 1,275,951.

  58. Why do Democrats feel the need to fill up the bus? We have 2 very good candidates – either will win. No need to throw others into the mix. Don’t muddy the field!

  59. Bernie Sanders will be 75 years old on election day, 2016; which would make him six years older than Reagan, the oldest first-term president ever.

Sanders is not a member of the Democratic Party and, if by some miracle he actually got elected, he’ll be an actual Socialist (smeared with the “Commie” label) trying to govern alongside a Congress that may still be under complete Teabagger Republican control. And after four years of being able to accomplish virtually nothing, Sanders would have to try running for re-election when he’s almost 80 years old and up against a Republican who’ll probably be decades younger.

And a Sanders presidency will almost certainly never come to pass unless Bernie can somehow increase his support among non-white Democrats by at least 30-40 percentage points. With Clinton in the race, that’s most-likely not going to happen….

  60. Obviously your eyesight and hearing are impaired you are not able to listen, hear and see what Bernie stands for. Why not educate yourself by tuning into any one of Bernie’s Utube events in Portland, OR, Seattle, (UW Aug. 8th 7PM) or Los Angles Aug. 10th. He was also invited on “Meet the Press” a good one to familiarize yourself with his thinking. “The Christian Science Monitor” a well respected news paper also had him speak at one of their breakfasts,it too is available on Utube. To inform you Bernie is a Socialist Democrat, which is not the same as being a Socialist. Two very distinct differences. Do some research before you verbally vomit.

  61. This was an amazing paragraph. “When we stand together there is nothing we cannot accomplish.” <3

"Bernie is the only candidate that is refusing corporate hand outs. On top of that he wants reforms that bring us back up to speed with the rest of the first world nations in education, health care, and median wage. All areas which we are being utterly destroyed in.

  62. You and #42 must be related, neither of you know the difference between a Democratic Socialist (which is
what Bernie is) and has nothing to do with communisium. It’s also orbvious you didn’t see or listen to him on “Meet the Press” or the “Christian Science Monitor” breakfast. Both well respected organizations. You and #42 should educate yourselves
about Bernie’s platform. Maybe, just maybe you will learn something, that would be my hope.

  63. You know, it’s funny you mention that approximate jump in points.

New results show Bernie Sanders leading in New Hampshire at 44% to Clinton’s 37%. In March 5 months prior Sanders only had 8% and Clinton was 44%.

That is a 43-point swing in FIVE months. Negative Nancy’s need to take a seat.

  64. If you actually looked at Sanders position on everything and you come away with an argument against each and every one then you need serious help that’s “WHY”! He is the best candidate to come along in my many years at being a political junkie that’s “WHY”! He covers way more issues than all the Republican candidates put together squared and is more right than Clinton on more issues! That’s “WHY”! FEELTHEBERN.CO

  65. Bernie is there mainly to drag Hillary away from GOP lite. He speaks power to the workers. Trump speaks power to the racist, misogynist and other hate groups on the far right. Trump is supposed to make Jeb or Walker look better to voters. I will vote for Hillary in the primary because I know a socialist has a snowball’s chance in hell in the General, even though I love Bernie’s views. I might forego the Dem. primary to vote for Trump in the GOP primary, as I am listed (I) and my state allows that.Because Trump guarantees a Democratic win.

  66. The real issue that this article skates over without notice is – WHY would the Democratic Party be threatened by Bernie Sanders and his completely authentic, FDR-inspired, wholly democratic message?
What is the logic of hearing Sanders’s populist and progressive ideas and thinking, “Damn, we need to get Biden to run?”
Why would a populist progressive who’s speaking to ever larger and more excited crowds bother anyone in the Democratic party?
Unless the Democratic Party isn’t very democratic?

  67. Everyone knows Bernie is a socialist, and most know he is Jewish. Like in the stock market, those facts have already been discounted in the minds of the public “buying” Bernie’s message. To take Bernie down will require some new dirt to smear him with. He has a huge congressional record to pick at. If there is nothing that can be found to complain about there, then he is likely going to win in November 2016. However, with enough money on the other side I guess something can get rigged. Either a lie that gets thrown against the wall until it sticks, or a new trick on how to rig election results.

  68. No MORE LIZARDS !..Go Bernie !

Hillary vs any from the clown car conundrum…From Douglas Adams… Funny, but very true about this election especially

…a large spaceship has crashed into harrods of london, and a large robot has emerged, and said, “take me to your lizard”. ford prefect explains this to arthur dent:

“It comes from a very ancient democracy, you see …”
“You mean it comes from a world of lizards?”
“No,” said Ford, “nothing so simple. Nothing anything like so straightforward. On its world, the people are people. The leaders are lizards. The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people.”
“Odd,” said Arthur, “I thought you said it was a democracy.”
“I did,” said Ford. “It is.”
“So,” said Arthur, hoping he wasn’t sounding ridiculously obtuse, “why don’t the people get rid of the lizards?”
“It honestly doesn’t occur to them,” said Ford. “They’ve all got the vote, so they all pret…

  69. finishing up with the lizards :)

“So,” said Arthur, hoping he wasn’t sounding ridiculously obtuse, “why don’t the people get rid of the lizards?”

“You mean they actually vote for the lizards?”
“Oh yes,” said Ford with a shrug, “of course.”
“But,” said Arthur, going for the big one again, “why?”
    “Because if they…

  70. Wrong.
This does not mean that the Democrats are looking for an alternative to Hillary Clinton. It means they’ve found one.

    Go Bernie Go!

  71. Ok Sonia, vomit yourself.

Do you think the people that brought you “Show me the birth certificate” are going to care what the difference is between a Democratic Socialist and a Socialist or Commie?

Hillary Clinton has been a Democrat since 1968.

Bernie has been a Democrat since April of 2015.

I am NOT a Democratic Socialist or a Liberty Union member, I am a Registered Democrat and damn proud of it.

I have been working with the DEMCRATIC PARTY since 1976; voter registration, cold calls, walking precincts, door to door, and YES raising money… thank you very much.

Personally, I do not appreciate an Independent Candidate like Bernie jumping over to the the Democratic Party just because we have the infrastructure in place for National Elections that Independents lack.

I also do NOT appreciate Bernie’s ideas on Weapon Safety. I did not appreciate Bernie’s vote against the Brady Bill in 1993 or his vote for the Weapons (NRA sponsored) lawsuit protection bill …

  72. Why? Because I personally feel threatened by Bernie’s lax attitude on Weapon Safety and specifically his vote to protect Weapons Manufacturers from lawsuits aka The Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act.

  73. The “establishment needs to get over it.” Get over what? The fact that an Independent Socialist turned Democrat for three months is trying take over a Party I have supported for over 40 years. You just want to throw people like me under the Bernie Bern it down Bus?

This blog is starting to sound like the Occupy Movement… and what happened to them anyway.

  74. The DNC appears to be in full panic mode. It was forced to have debates thereby guaranteeing Bernie Sanders the opportunity to debate their candidate in front of millions of viewers. They cut the debates to six and managed to schedule the first debate 3 days after people registered in other parties in NY can change their registration and vote for Bernie. They passed a rule which prohibits Democrats from appearing in any debates not sanctioned by the DNC. Now they are trying frantically to add people to the debate stage so Bernie does not dominate… how about Joe Biden? How about Al Gore? How about Michael Dukakis? Outrageous and very undemocratic.

  75. Thats because the media has HRC and The GOP on their payroll. Stop elections decided by the Rich.
No more bull we have had enough at least 16 yrs of corporate big money politics if not longer. Lets take our country back and have a president that will represent the working class. If it wasnt for the working class the U.S. would crumble. Bernie 2016

  76. #42, I welcome your voice and your comments, but you seriously need to stop hurling “Jew!” at Bernie in a derogatory manner. Or like it’s kinda of revelation.

  77. You’re not alone, Shadowolf.

I won’t argue either candidate with either side because it’s pointless. All we can do is try and encourage everyone to vote for whomever wins the nomination. Our top priority is to keep the GOPTea out of office. Everything else is secondary.

  78. Bernie Sanders should not only be the Democratic Party’s backup plan, he should be enthusiastically endorsed by the party.

  79. FDR was as much a socialist as Bernie Sanders. Bernie identifies himself as a Democratic Socialist who uses the models of successful Scandinavian governments. Those models do not reject capitalism. They do embrace identifying social goals – such as health, education, living wages and welfare for all – within an economy that embraces free enterprise.

  80. So are you folks who are gaga over Bernie now socialists? Do you want America to be more like Europe or (the former) Soviet empire?

  81. Bernie has voted with the democrat party ever since he has been in public service. He is more of a democrat than anything else.

  82. Many nations in Europe have enviable social programs, and as someone familiar with the former Soviet bloc, I can tell you that the standard of living for the ordinary person was better than now.

  83. Having actually lived in France and been to most of Europe, I can say I miss a lot about it. The quality of life is much better, everyone has healthcare, you can walk the streets at night with out fear of being shot. Taxes are high, but you get a lot for your taxes. I can remember when the USA was a much better place to live, before Ronald Reagan started the gutting. I want that back!

What has the USSR got to do with this? A dictatorship disguised as Communism has nothing to do with partial socialism.

  84. That’s absurd. Senator Sanders represented his constituents in Vermont on that, as he should. It’s a rural, progressive state where people hunt. I hunt, come from a gun family, none of us have handguns or those stupid assault rifles. The people of Vermont and people like me aren’t the problem. It’s idiots who don’t hunt – who don’t understand Dead. Those are the losers who take an Ar-15 (or whatever) to the grocery store.

Mr. Sanders has already addressed this issue; as President his policy on guns would completely change. There’s a difference between speaking for Vermont, and speaking for the USA, he knows it.

Even with out gun policy, do you really want an entrenched ogliarchy running Hillary Clinton? Dynastic Presidential families? Getting huffy on a single issue that’s been addressed isn’t very forward thinking of you.

  85. Bernie Supporter, This is off topic but I have to throw this in here. Remember in 2004 when somebody printed a bunch of Fake $200 bills with the Shrub’s picture on it saying _”I Hate Broccoli” and some twit teenager at a DQ took it and gave change for $200.00? Believe the state that happened was red Kentucky. Tell you anything? [WINK]

BTW, Bernie probably can’t win the Democrat nomination but he can sure force people to talk about moving the country left of center and that is GOOD.

  86. What is wrong with the Democratic Party? It is obvious that the American people are enthused about BERNIE SANDERS…why don’t they get behind him and support him, rather than scouting around for someone who can come in at SQUARE ZERO?

  87. I can only speak for myself. I have never considered myself a socialist. I am a human being, worked as a nurse for 35 years, I love God and care about my fellow man.

I am disgusted that many corporations don’t pay taxes, and actually get “welfare” from the government. I would like to see them pay their fair share, so that the social programs that already exist could be expanded, while the national debt could be reduced. Do some research. Bernie’s views are espoused by MANY…because he is practical and fair.

  88. I don’t mind a strong group of democrats. I do think that the media is trying to build up Bernie, because the Republicans do NOT want to go up against Hilary. Hilary has the women, minority and at least 50 percent of white men. The press is creating phony scandals, but the people aren’t falling for it. Many do think Bernie is too much of a socialist. Hilary is the most qualified candidate and she has a large grassroots backing. In the general election Bernie may well have to do what Obama did and accept corporate or PAC money. Iowa, New Hampshire and white dominated states may be backing Bernie, but those states don’t predict the frontrunners anymore. I’ll vote straight Democrat, but I’m supporting Hilary because she is the smartest and most informed on both domestic and foreign policy. Hilary’s baggage people keep speaking about is GOP driven. She was the smartest candidate in 2008, but it seems like white men and the media still are using bogus scandals to hide their …

  89. Interesting that Socialism has only been mentioned once before in this comment thread.

It is good that intellectual Anti-Capitalism has become popular in USA politics, post-Obama.

  90. Dumbass America already have socialism. In fact its written in the Constitution
Article I, Section 8, Clause 7 of the United States Constitution, known as the Postal Clause or the Postal Power, empowers Congress “To establish Post Offices and post Roads”.

  91. Actually, The only reason why Bernie Sanders is making mainstream Dems nervous is because most of them are tied to special interests like Republicans are. The wave of decent will sweep the country with his candidacy. It’s about time. There is not more than a handful of Democrats on the hill who would dare think about stepping out into the light with regard to where they get their support. Bernie Sanders has nothing to be ashamed of. He has spoken loudly and directly to the issues without the baggage of pandering. Hillary would never say one word about breaking up the banks. Bernie has many times. The Democrats have nobody who could run against Bernie Sanders and win if they were forced to debate him. That I think is the reason why the DNC has not scheduled more debates. They are afraid of Bernie Sanders and his truth telling machine. If Hillary does become our endorsed candidate, I will vote for her. But I don’t think she will, not once the debates start. Sanders wins hands down.

  92. He has spoken loudly and directly to the issues without the baggage of pandering.
    ———————————
Like the time he oppose the President about closing down GITMO?

  93. I’m a Bernie supporter. I’ve been following him for a year now and I like what he says and stands for. I think he would be a good president.wink

  94. Nevermind that he supports the closing down of the Export/Import bank which last year return a profit of over 600 million dollars to the taxpayers and provided thousands of jobs to Americans

  95. I think Hillary cares about people in general. It’s just that she won’t stand up to the banks, She won’t take a hard line on poverty like Bernie has, She hasn’t stated a clear position on Citizens United. She has to be careful what she says so she doesn’t loose the support of the contributors of her super pac. And If she doesn’t make it clear that she supports sweeping environmental and economic changes, she’ll loose. She stands with the TPP. Sanders and most Americans who understand it are against it. There are a number of areas where Hillary will loose support when she goes head to head with Sanders in a debate. This will unite the voters and send a clear message to The Democratic Party that “WE the People” is more important than We the Politicians….It will open the door for more and more true Progressive candidates in future elections. It’s about time……..

  96. Most presidential candidates go out of their way to avoid appearances of having a litmus test for Supreme Court appointees. So it was unusual when Mrs. Clinton on Monday said publicly that she did have such a metric: overturning the Citizens United decision of 2010.

“I will do everything I can to appoint Supreme Court justices who protect the right to vote and do not protect the right of billionaires to buy elections,” Mrs. Clinton said while on Day 1 of a two-day swing through Iowa.
    http://www.nytimes.com/politics/first-draft/2015/05/19/today-in-politics-clinton-says-citizens-united-would-guide-her-supreme-court-picks/

Myself even though I have posted about the TPP I like most people really don’t know whats in it and I doubt the one has read it and his support of dismantling the Export/Import bank say to me he don’t know jack about trade and how the world economy works

So if you say wait to the debates hell he couldn’t handle rookie league people who question his holiness. So we shall see when he is on Broadway

  97. What is wrong with Bernie voting to protecting the NRA and gun manufacturers from lawsuits?

The NRA is pure evil in my view, it is not the organization it was decades ago. It is no better the the Mafia.

Sorry, but that is a deal breaker for me.

As Hillary Clinton said “Second Amendment, at what point, what difference does it make?”

  98. Yes, his vote against the Brady Bill and for the NRA Gun Protection from Lawsuits comes to mind for me.

And, Bernie’s lame “hammer manufacturers” comment was insulting.

  99. Absurd is a matter of perspective. The NRA is pure evil and any bill they are for, I am against. What would be absurd is a Law protecting Hammer Companies for lawsuits as well. Heck, I can think of many ways to kill people with dental floss, should we protect that industry from lawsuits as well.

Bernie can hug is guns in Vermont for all I care, but he will not get this LIFETIME DEMOCRATS SUPPORT!

  100. Bernie has only been a Democrat for three months. Why didn’t he just run as an Independent, a Democratic Socialist or a Liberty Union candidate?

  101. No, this 40 year Democratic Member is worried because of Bernie’s support for the NRA; the Mafia of American Politics. IMO.

  102. Sanders Is for the middle class upon whose backs this country was built, and whose sons, grandsons, father, brothers, daughters, wives, and mothers sacrificed body, minds, and death to maintain a democracy for all, not corporations and greedy.polticians supported by corporations. The Koch brothers want to buy every politician to cowtow to their wishes for a dynasty. VOTE FOR SANDERS & every Democrat on the ballot We do not need any more obstructionists ruling OUR LIVES!!!!!Nor shall we be ruled by those creating a KINGDOM for themselves!!!

  103. It should bother everyone that you are using it as an insult, regardless of who they support. Being a Jew is not an insult nor a negative descriptor and you using it as such says a lot more about then about Bernie Sanders or his supporters.

  104. The only way to understand this is to recognize that half the people in this country are out of their damn minds.

Probably don’t get that in Switzerland – you probably help those with mental illness but here, we let them mix in with the normal folk…and vote.

OK, that last part was a little mean on my part but I couldn’t help it. :)

  105. FDR was a DEMOCRAT! He ran and was elected as a DEMOCRAT to the New York State Senate in 1910.

“Democratic socialism is defined as having a socialist economy in which the means of production are socially and collectively owned alongside a politically democratic system of government.”

FDR did not takeover any American Production, Banks or Industries. Regulated, yes; takeover, no.

But, good luck explaining that to the GOPers, TB’s and even Moderate Democrats.

  106. There are a lot of newbies to politics thinking they discovered water is wet when they found Bernie. They have this amazing thing nobody ever heard of and they need to educate us all on how great it is.

I was there at those dsa meetings in the 70s and ran out of them like my hair was on fire.

  107. Sorry, but Bernie’s vote to protect the NRA and Gun Companies was bad enough, but then he had to drag Hammer Companies into his excuse. Sorry, I am supporting Hillary. She switched to the Democratic Party 47 years ago not 3 months ago.

  108. But Rin…This is Wonderful!

We Political Junkies knew of all that Bernie is communicating…

But just imagine all the people he’s touching and they will pass this knowledge/truth/information on to more people…more and more ripples!

Like throwing a rock in a still pond.
We will change America for the better.
    With Heart/Passion/Truth!

Bernie is a spark even if he doesn’t win.

  109. Joan,
The more Dems Debating…the more Swing-Voters get a picture of where Dems are coming from…they learn how Democratic Ideas are far superior!

  110. In what world? You do know that that New Hampshire poll was paid for and conducted by Bush family friends, Andrew Card and Marlin Fitzwater, don’t you? Are you going to hinge all your hopes on that poll?

Political reality for Bernie supporters: he isn’t going to get the minority vote. Without us, he can’t win the nom.

  111. Nope, they have a brand new shiny poll and it is from Progressives favorite new polling source: FOX

Fox left out how many of the people they asked were dems or reps or indy.

They just ask the questions and they found that Hillary lost 20% of her voters in just 3 days. That’s right one third of her voters are gone – in three days.

    According to Fox.

And now of course, Bernie supporters too.

Feel the Fox! Hannity for Bernie!

  112. That New Hampshire poll was paid for and conducted by a firm headed by ANDREW CARD and MERLIN FITZWATER. If you don’t know who those two are, then look them up.

That poll is proof-positive for me that the GOP is using Sanders as a means to weaken the Democratic candidate. You’d think after their support of Nader in 2000 and 2004 the Left would be wary of outlier polls like that, but apparently you can still fool some of the people some of the time.

They won’t fool this Democrat, though.

  113. Paul Krugman takes time in his blog to address the not so little matter of people who become incensed because the views they favor are dismissed – not because those views are incoherent or factually wrong (when they are), but because they feel they are not being treated with respect. It’s the kind of argument that begins with “Do you know who I am?” or “Who do you think you are?” It’s often a knee-jerk authoritarian response, because one must never question authoritarian leaders on anything. (Both leaders and their followers are united in this.) They demand respect, no matter how little they deserve it.
    http://krugman.blogs.nytimes.com/2015/08/14/r-e-s-p-e-c-t/?module=BlogPost-Title&version=Blog%20Main&contentCollection=Opinion&action=Click&pgtype=Blogs%C2%AEion=Body&_r=0

  114. Well, DJ – Charlotte didn’t say the DNC is being forced to have more debates she said the DNC was forced to have the 6 they always have.

He forced the DNC to have any debates is inaccurate.

It is not close to factual.

    It is laughable.

Charlotte has long been putting out lies and propaganda here for the Rs. She lies all the time, not errors – lies.

I find them to be stupid lies.

I should not feed the trolls, I guess.

  115. Sanders needs to either run as an Independent and as the Socialist he is or stay in Congress where he votes Democratic. Hillary has the backing of the Dems. in Congress, Sanders does not. If we don’t get a Dem. in the White House we are sunk and the Reps. know they can beat Sanders with one arm tied behind their backs. We have to vote Hillary.

  116. How many of these people are hired by the Republicans to try and hurt Hillary? Has anyone ever checked them?

Democrats are NOT FEELING BERNIE BECAUSE HE’S NOT A DEMOCRAT!

So I do not believe the hype!!

We are so damn easy to be fooled by MEDIA BULLSHIT!

  117. This is not Europe. Unfortunately, we do not have a Parliamentary system in America, we have a winner takes all system with an archaic system called the Electoral College that does not even match the winner with the popular vote. Ex. Presidential Elections of 1824, 1876 and 2000.

  118. Because it is better to vote for your best interests than against your best interests. Check the platforms of each candidate and you decide. #Bernie2016

  119. Hilary is the lame duck candidate! Bernie would win the general in a landslide. But this Political Revolution is not just about the presidency. We plan to vote out every republican possible as well. Because Centrist Democrats, like Hilary, will fold with pressure and move progressively. Republicans do not give a care about pressure and will never move progressively. So they all go. Election after election until we completely realign our 3 branches of government with pro middle class and working class representatives! This is a Political Revolution, not just one election. We are going to win. The momentum cannot be contained. #Bernie2016

  120. Bernie was never the plan! Bernie is merely the epicenter, the ring leader of OUR Political Revolution. Centrist and right wing economics will no longer due. Bernie is the frontrunner. Pay no mind to the mainstream media. Pay attention to where the heart of this country is. #Bernie2016
