28 Republican Men Threaten To Shut Down The Government Unless Planned Parenthood Is Defunded

Twenty-eight Republican men are threatening to shut down the government unless women are denied critical health care services through the defunding of Planned Parenthood.

In a letter being circulated by Heritage Action, the 28 House Republicans said:

It is with great urgency that we write concerning Planned Parenthood Federation of America.

We are deeply disturbed at recent reports that Planned Parenthood has been selling the tissue of unborn babies for profit. As firm believers in the sanctity of life, beginning at conception, we are horrified at these reports. It is imperative that Congress do everything within its power to investigate these reports and take immediate action to stop them.

In the meantime, we must act to fully defund Planned Parenthood. Please know that we cannot and will not support any funding resolution – an appropriations bill, an omnibus package, a continuing resolution, or otherwise – that contains any funding for Planned Parenthood, including mandatory funding streams.

In addition, we think that it would be helpful to all House Republicans to have a special conference at the earliest possible date to discuss how best to address these atrocities.

These activities by Planned Parenthood cannot go unanswered by Congress. We look forward to your response and prompt attention in this matter.

Planned Parenthood isn’t selling fetal tissue for profit. They are donating the tissue, with the consent of their patients, for scientific research. The videos that the 28 Republicans are referring to have been debunked as edited fakes, but as President Obama said on Labor Day, Republicans never let facts and evidence get in their way.

Dozens of House Republican men are willing to shut down the government to take health care away from women. Twenty-eight men are willing to damage the United States economy unless women are stripped of vital healthcare resources.

It boggles the mind that Republicans are blind to how bad this looks. It is almost as if they are telling the majority of women in this country not to vote for them.

House Republicans are digging their own political graves. Planned Parenthood will not be defunded, and if the government shuts down, House Republicans will be blamed.

The government may shut down, but Planned Parenthood will continue to be funded as Republicans will lose again.

  1. These 28 men should be shamed the entire time, from the moment they get to Washington and start working to the moment when the spending bill passes and Planned Parenthood is saved, the sequester is taken out and funding for our damn highways is secured!

These 28 sell outs should be shamed. Do whatever you can to make your voice heard! Tell the Terrible Twenty-Eight that this will not stand!

  2. …I so hope that their constituents rise up and teach these Teahadists that betraying THEIR interests is a no-no…

  3. “There are none so blind as those who will not see.”

The gopers WILL shut the government down – again. And in this act, commit political party suicide. By the middle of 2016 any goper standing for election or re-election is a guaranteed loser. The extreme right is very close to the bottom of the slippery slope.

  4. Surely these republican men have wives, daughters, sisters, mothers who have some iota of concern for what is being done to the women of this country.

Surely they have some degree of influence over these people.

Or are they just doormats shivering in the background and have no independent thoughts?

  5. Let their names be posted – loud and clear. These are the pukes that should be targeted next election!

  6. I don’t know. The last time the Republicans shut down the government they paid NO price at all for it. In fact, they gained control of the Senate after that.

  7. How many of these “firm believers in the sanctity of life” have voted against programs such as Emergency Medical Service for Children, Children’s Health Insurance Program or the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children?

How many of these hypocrites are pro death penalty and anti education?

Their opposition to Planned Parenthood is just another bull sh!t PR stunt to placate their poorly educated, ill-informed faux-christian base.

  8. Someone should investigate each of these individuals to see if there is a money trail leading from any of them to the arsonists burning down PP. Of course, nobody will bother to investigate; but I bet if they did, there would be a lot to find.

  9. These republican pukes may be pro birth but, as we all know, they definitely are not pro life. How many people have they killed by not allowing Medicaid into their states? Many thousands. I know a lot of Dems lost races by racing away from PBO. Good riddance. I can’t believe that the average citizen thinks shutting down the government is a good idea. Did the populace learn nothing from the last shutdown? The tapes are obvious lies to anyone that is at all open to the truth. As far as a Tea Party Patriots wife is concerned I only have my own sister to go by. She turned Don’t Tread On Me crazy after marriage to a silly fat man with Tea Party credentials. She now listens to Rush and the whole bit. This after inheriting millions untaxed in a trust. So you pays your money and you takes your choice. We have to fight this garbage. I’ll use the list above to start. And Vote.

  10. It is time for the American people to get rid of this despicable bunch of yahoo’s and send them packing back to the rock they crawled from. Enough is enough! The lazy a$$-holes should be helping people instead of taking away women’s rights. The most ironic thing is you have female teatards voting these fools back in office. To stupid to see through the BS these politicians. Democrats it’s time to get off your conveniences and VOTE.

  11. If the Kochs were profiting off of fetal tissue sales then all would be hunky-dory with these “concerned” lawmakers.

  12. The reason why I posted the names is because Jason didn’t.

I believe we do a disservice to readers, commenters when we use the “28 Republican Men” headline without identifying them.

Air the laundry – let people know just who they are. Educate yourself if you have one of them as your representative, and work to defeat them in the next election!

If we don’t take those measures, they remain incognito and protected by their anonymity.

Skin the rats and hang them on the wall!

  13. Don’t forget the clitoris because women shouldn’t enjoy sex……

  14. The House has been useless for a very long time. Now the Senate is infected. (Hopefully not for long) All the scapegoating of the bills “sitting on Reid’s desk”, well they aren’t anymore and it shows the uselessness of GOP land.

  15. That was a midterm election when traditionally Democrats stay home. And the fact that the Democrats as a party badly misread the attitude of the public and ran away from Obama. This time the political winds blow in a totally opposite direction. Republicans are playing with fire but they’re just too stupid to know it.

  16. They’d sell it as proof of how much they really love science so you can trust them that there’s no climate change.

  17. Sammy, these wives, daughters and sisters have plenty of money and don’t need Planned Parenthood, therefore they could care less if it’s funded or not. This is part of the problem with Congress. It is filled with millionaires who are completely out of touch with the rest of society.

  18. Thank you. I see two are from my state of Pennsylvania. Neither represent me, but this state is so gerrymandered it probably doesn’t matter. My push will be to get rid of partisan redistricting.

  19. This latest manufactured outrage has nothing to do with denying women healthcare, abortion or P.P. Come on, people – follow the money! Republicans want to funnel the hundreds of billions provided P.P. into more Faith Based Initiatives, in other words, a zero-accountability, bottomless pit of boondoggle $$ for their buddies.

  20. If politicians want to attach “conditions” to a woman’s decision of having an abortion, such as viewing fetal ultrasounds or listening to its heartbeat, then I think it’s only fair to let them watch a video of what a feverish newborn with projectile vomiting looks like at 3 a.m.

  21. All of these con men are intentionally repeating a known lie and to what end? Shutting the government down under false pretenses seems to be the Republican way these days. Just ask Ted Cruz. The only part of this letter that I agree with is the part that says they are deeply disturbed. For that, they should commit themselves to a mental institution.

  22. How about these right to lifers taking in 200,000 Syrian refugees. Wisconsin’s governor wouldn’t answer a direct question, because he is pandering to his right wing. In the meantime, stay out of our bodies. I am so sick of these fascist pigs.

  23. The good old plutocrats only care about forcing a birth to control and demonize women and once that fetus is a living breathing baby – well you shouldn’t expect any help

  24. These people need to quit lying about Planned Parenthood. It is known what they are saying is libel. It is in no way based in fact. They should be brought up on charges for spreading false information to the country and fined and they should be suspended from pay until they admit they are lying and twisting the facts that have been explained time and time again. They took up the wrong cause for their party. If they close the government down, people are not going to stand for it, Democrats and Republicans alike and I’m one of those registered Republicans. Enough of the witch hunts that affect the public in a very negative way. We don’t want the government shut down for your crusades that are based in delusion.

  25. And the thing is, if they shut the government down it doesn’t affect Obama at all. It affects the citizens; retired, disabled, Vets, poor etc. I am not going to stand for it this time. I will take the list and email or whatever to each and everyone of these lying criminals that think it is all right to try and blackmail this country into what they want it to be and spiting on our Constitution. I have really had it. I am a retired Republican and not rich. It is a fallacy that all are or that they are fanatical types of Christians. I have had enough DONE. They will never get my vote again. We need to rise up and make our opinions known so they hear it loud and clear.

  26. The republicans have to make threats to get there way, Well they are messing with the wrong people, I own my own body, and If I want a abortion I dam will get one no matter what they say or do. No one is going to tell me, in a free country what I can or cant do to my body, It belongs to me. I suggest the republicans and the groups of people who thing it is wrong go and adopt child that arent wanted and just sit down and shut up. your never going to win this ever. You wasting tax payers moneys, and you need to accept that its legal and remain that way, If you dont like it leave office.
