The Dropkick Murphys Praise Martin O’Malley After He Uses Their Music

The American Celtic punk band the Dropkick Murphys are very clear where they stand on politics.

They stand with the working people. For this reason, they were none too pleased when Gov. Scott Walker (R-WI) used their music. But on Saturday, they heard that 2016 Democratic presidential candidate Martin O’Malley used their music, and they were quite happy to have a “guy who stands up for working people using it!!!”

O’Malley saucily countered back, “.@DropkickMurphys Thanks! Come play a tune with me next time I’m in Boston? -O’M”

The Dropkick Murphys haven’t always been so pleased to have presidential candidates play their music. When Governor Scott Walker used it, the band let him know that they “literally” hate him:

Like his Democratic primary opponents former Sec. Hillary Clinton and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT ), O’Malley is a strong proponent of workers. One of his ideas that would please the liberal base is to expand Social Security, per Ballotopedia:

Martin O’Malley’s campaign released a white paper on August 21, 2015, outlining O’Malley’s plan to expand Social Security. As president, O’Malley would seek to increase Social Security benefits for all retirees, remove the cap on payroll taxes for workers earning more than $250,000, improve the cost-of-living adjustments formula, offer “caregiver credits” to elder care providers and maintain the current Social Security retirement age.[41]

O’Malley has a very progressive record with taxes. According to On the Issues, he “Cut taxes on bottom 85% while raising taxes on top 15%. (Jan 2014)”

The Democrat has been a staunch supporter of labor unions and waged a war against income inequality by raising his state’s minimum wage to $10.10 as Governor as part of a push from President Obama to get neighboring states to do what Congress will not for working people. He also supports raising the federal minimum wage to $15.00 an hour.

Ballotopedia detailed more of O’Malley’s labor positions:

Martin O’Malley wrote an op-ed in The Gazette on September 14, 2015, calling for at least 12 weeks of paid leave for parents regardless of gender, sexual orientation or marital status. O’Malley also advocated for “making pay data publicly available by sex, race, and ethnicity, so that all employees can see that they’re making a fair wage for their job.”[43]

The former Maryland Governor is on a roll lately even if he isn’t polling near the top two Democratic candidates, as yesterday Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) joined his call for more Democratic debates.

  • Great! We need the Dixie Chicks back and famous Musicians to back our Candidates.

Someone need someone to write a song about how we've lost our Sane Republican Party.
How Money and Enriching the 1% has Become The Only GOP Goal.

  • True that, Miss Suga, like Bob Marley said "the good
thing about music is when it hits you, you feel no pain." There's a Beres Hammond number that I&I
recommend titled "Putting Up Resistance". Hope it
gives folks a little inspiration in the face of another
    teabagger government shutdown. Jah bless.

  • Well thanks, so much, for giving us a good solid sense of what the music was like.
Thanks for the link to tune in question. didn't give us a link so we could HEAR what you're writing about.
WHY didn't you? Why don't you care?
WHY not do the full job??

Please develop a sense of empathy/caring.
Good writers actually care about their readers and how their copy is regarded.

CARE or go do something else.
