Most Americans feel this way, but so too, apparently, some conservatives. This is how frustrated one Republican was yesterday, tweeting:
Yes. It was that bad.
Red State’s Erick Erickson took to his blog to complain that it “was all a political spectacle” and while he pointed out, like the rest of us, that there was no plunder to be had, he also displayed a vision of Trey Gowder as a character in a Joseph Campbell hero myth:

The hearings are a waste of time because everything about it is politicized and nothing is going to happen. There will be no scalp collection. In fact, it is clear from today’s hearing that Trey Gowdy and Peter Roskam seem to be the only two people on the committee of either party who are capable of asking exacting, precise questions. Most of the rest of the committee just wants to grandstand for the folks back home as either prosecutors of or defenders of Hillary Clinton.
Mrs. Clinton too is far too bright to be trapped in this or any questions. There have been some, by Trey Gowdy typically, that have clearly caused Mrs. Clinton to be flustered, but the long term effects of that will be to make her a martyr to her own side. But the fact is, Democratic voters are not going to reject Mrs. Clinton even if she were to admit that she had flown to Benghazi and joined Al Qaeda in the attack.
Oh dear. He is frustrated, isn’t he? Democratic voters obviously would not approve of anyone fighting for Al Qaeda, whatever Erickson’s Fox News fantasies, but his point is well taken: nothing Trey Gowdy and his witch-hunters can accomplish is going to in any way stop Hillary Clinton supporters from supporting Hillary Clinton. The hearings might even gain her some new supporters, because she’s making them look like what they are: a bunch of petulant school children.
Erickson concluded,
It was all a political spectacle. God bless Trey Gowdy for trying to learn the facts and understand what happened. But the rest of it was just a carnival road show of back bench congresscritters playing to the cameras and Hillary Clinton working hard to play persecuted victim.
Well, not so much victim as hero. Republicans tried to mansplain Benghazi to Hillary Clinton, and she had them for lunch. But even a frustrated Erickson is not willing to admit to such abject failure on the part of Republicans.
The truth is, however, that Hillary could and should have stood up and said, “Look, I am not your damn mother!” right before she publicly spanked them and sent them to their rooms without dessert, which is essentially, if lamentably only metaphorically, what happened.
