Rep. Carson told CNN, “What concerns me is you have the demagoguery taking place from people who are seeking to become president of the United States. You have other politicians who are joining the bandwagon and who are fanning the flames of bigotry, because we’re putting people i.e. Muslims, Sikhs, Hindus, and others in the line of fire exposing them to death threats, discrimination in the workplace, and assaults. I just received a death threat yesterday in my own office, and it’s largely in part to this toxic environment.”
Rep. Carson was correct. Donald Trump and other Republicans are looking to create an environment of bigotry and hatred that they can exploit for political gain. The consequences of the rhetoric that fuel their bigotry are discrimination and death threats against Muslims or anybody that the ignorant bigot thinks might be a Muslim.
Trump is more than a carnival barker. He is preaching a very dangerous kind of hate that will get innocent people killed.Fear and discrimination are never the answer when confronted with terrorism, but Donald Trump is creating a dangerous environment solely because he believes that it will help him win the Republican nomination.
Republicans learned nothing from the domestic terror attack on the Colorado Springs Planned Parenthood Clinic. Words matter, and when a frontrunner for a major political party’s nomination runs a campaign that is based on hatred, no one should be surprised when a Muslim member of Congress receives a death threat.
Death threats against innocent Muslims are the face of the Trump led Republican Party.
