Sanders was asked what it is like for him to hear Republicans and others talk about Hillary Clinton as the likely Democratic nominee.
Sen. Sanders answered, “Well, it’s kind of amusing. I think throughout my political career really people have underestimated me. Nobody but nobody believed I would have been elected mayor of the city of Burlington. Nobody believed I would have been elected to the US Congress. To get elected to the Senate, I had to defeat the wealthiest guy in the state of Vermont. So I would say to people, don’t underestimate the message that we are bringing forth to the American people. And the desire of the American people to see real change in this country and to see leadership that stands up to the billionaire class.”
Later during the interview, Sanders contrasted his consistency on the issues with former Sec. of State Clinton, “You can’t be a moderate, you can’t be a progressive, you can’t be for the TPP and against the TPP, for the Keystone Pipeline, against the Keystone Pipeline. You know, I have been fairly consistent my entire political life. Some people say I’m kind of boring because I have been saying the same thing for 30 years.”
The message is carrying Bernie Sanders to fundraising records. The message is why people are turning by the thousands to his rallies and events. Sanders isn’t a celebrity like Donald Trump. The message is carrying the Bernie Sanders campaign. Millions of people have bought into the message, and they believe that Sanders is the candidate who can bring real change to the country.
The power of Bernie Sanders is in the message, and the degree of successful penetration of his message into the psyche of the electorate will determine how far his presidential campaign goes.
