Payback Time: Democrats Laugh As Ted Cruz Burns In The Republican Birther Fire

Democrats are proving that they wouldn’t put Ted Cruz out if he were on fire by not lifting a finger to help Cruz as he is being engulfed by Republican birther hysteria.

After John McCain had thrown his old enemy Ted Cruz under the bus by jumping on the birther express yesterday, House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi was asked about Cruz’s eligibility to be president at her weekly press conference.

When asked about Cruz, Pelosi said, “I do think there is a distinction between John McCain being born to a family serving our country in Panama than someone born in another country. But this is a constitutional issue that will either be decided or not. In a constitutional way, my opinion means nothing here. I haven’t paid any attention to it. I’m more concerned that the Republicans in Congress think that trying to stop gun violence in our country is a distraction. That their first legislative act is to defund Planned Parenthood. That’s really where my focus is, not where Ted Cruz was born.”

In other words, Pelosi isn’t going to stop the GOP from hanging itself with Trump’s birther rope.

Meanwhile, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest had a field day with the obvious Republican birther hypocrisy, “Look, it would be quite ironic if after seven or eight years of drama around the President’s birth certificate, if Republican primary voters were to choose Senator Cruz as their nominee — somebody who actually wasn’t born in the United States and only 18 months ago renounced his Canadian citizenship. ”

Sen. Cruz (R-TX) has made enemies all over Washington. Democrats especially seem to be enjoying watching the same sort of bigotry towards immigrants that Cruz has been campaigning on be applied to himself. Ted Cruz is going to find no friends within the Democratic Party. It doesn’t matter if the vast majority of legal scholars believe that Cruz is eligible to be president.

Republicans enabled and encouraged the birthers within their party to attack President Obama. Now, Democrats get to sit back and enjoy the show as the bigots target one of their own. Payback is a real SOB. Ted Cruz is going to find no help within the Democratic Party, and he tries to defeat Trump and his birthers.
