The Top Senate Judiciary Democrat Goes Off On Republicans For Refusing To Do Their Jobs

Senate Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Patrick Leahy is not impressed with Senate Republicans after they promised to refuse to do their Constitutionally-mandated jobs. After all, Leahy reminded them in a scathing Op-Ed, the American people “don’t have the luxury of telling their bosses that they don’t want to do their jobs because they would rather ‘delay, delay, delay.’”

“Every day Americans show up for work and do their jobs. They don’t have the luxury of telling their bosses that they don’t want to do their jobs because they would rather ‘delay, delay, delay,’” Leahy wrote in USA Today.

“And neither should the United States Senate. The Senate has come together time and again to consider Supreme Court nominees — including Antonin Scalia, who was unanimously confirmed in 1986 and who served on the Court for almost three decades,” the Senator continued.

Imploring that the stakes are high and impact every single American, the Democrat wrote, “Make no mistake — a single vacancy matters. It matters for all those who value breathing clean air or drinking clean water; those who work for a living or are retirees; those who own a cellphone; those who are troubled by corruption in our political process and those who value our national security. The stakes are high for all of us.”

The sentiment that Senate Republicans need to stop whining and throwing their feces at the wall is not a strictly partisan one. For example (and I’d like to think there are more Republicans who actually care about the Constitution and our checks and balances), a top GOP leader in Colorado told Republicans to do their jobs as well. Of course, he can’t impact the obstinacy born of desperation of the Republican leadership. But the point is there: Senate Republicans are refusing to do their jobs.

Warning: Don’t try the Republicans’ tactic with your job. This only works for privileged people whom you pay to “represent” you.

If you announced that you had no plans to do the job your boss is paying you for, oh and by the way, all of their systems that they have had in place for hundreds of years, yeah, you’re not going to do that either — and in fact, you figure why not destroy those systems because it would be better for your agenda if they didn’t exist, things would probably not go so well for you.

Oh, and cherry on top as you run from the smoldering building you just set fire to, you won’t be showing up for work on the actual days they need you, as you prefer not to work so hard.

Would you be paid? I’m guessing not. You’d be lucky if your boss didn’t sue you after you landed in jail.

But luckily for Republicans, they get to take our money whether they work or not, greedily taking government handouts for doing nothing but throwing dirt at the Constitution and ruining the lives of every day Americans by refusing to do things that would actually help them.

Tossing this country over a cliff over and over again because it is the only way they can impose their will – that is what the Republican party has come to. They couldn’t win the White House so they are stripping it of its power, and destroying the ability of the Supreme Court to operate as fully functioning checks and balances.

Ironically, when Republicans last had the White House, they abused the power of the executive office to such an extent that Constitutional scholars said Bush had ruled like a dictator. So it is only when Republicans do not occupy the White House that they seek to effectively strip the office of its power. It is also the opposite of small government. This is also known as having no values.

Currently Republicans are taking our money for the service of destroying everything the framers set out to create. Must be nice to be paid to throw bombs around knowing you have a cushy, taxpayer-funded shelter.
