Harry Reid Levels Senate Republicans By Using Trump And Cruz As A Political WMD

Harry Reid is not impressed with Senate Republicans, and he is not mincing words. If they go along with Mitch McConnell’s plot to refuse to do their jobs and spit on the Constitution just for political purposes, Reid warned them they will be just as culpable for the demise of the Republican Party as extremists Donald Trump and Ted Cruz.

“This is really a pivotal moment for the Republican Party and this Republican Senate. The Republican Party of Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt is transforming before our eyes, abandoning its last vestiges of decency and unconditionally surrendering its moral compass to Donald Trump and Ted Cruz,” Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) charged in a scathing floor speech today, reported by Roll Call’s Niels Lesniewski.

Reid once again alleged that behind closed doors Republicans “express disappointment” regarding the direction of their party but are too afraid to speak up lest they be criticized by the extremists who are holding the Republican Party reins.

Reid warned that if they don’t speak up, they are as culpable as Trump or Cruz for ruining the Republican Party, “Republicans should think long and hard about this simple fact: If they follow the course set by the Republican Leader, every one of them will be responsible as Trump and Cruz for the debasement of the Republican party.

The Republican Party’s big plan to refuse to even hold a hearing for an Obama nominee to the Supreme Court isn’t going so well. Polls show the public is against them, and vulnerable Republican Senators up for re-election are getting hit with their refusal to do their jobs and uphold their Constitutional duties.

Harry Reid faced a ton of criticism for his refusal to change rules to get around Republican obstruction of President Obama. How are Republicans repaying Reid for his reverence for the rules and process? Just kicking sand in his face and screaming “Neener-neener” as they run off the playground refusing to participate in the process they campaigned and were elected to do.

Republicans have indeed ceded moral authority to the Democrats. The party of “grown-ups” has become the party of spoiled little boys hitting and kicking other children on the playground while pointing their fingers with contempt and then hiding behind their parents’ money when the principal calls them to the office.

But this time, they played the wrong card. McConnell never should have announced his obstruction so boldly, within hours of Justice Scalia’s death.
