Republicans Expand Their Refusal to Do Their Job by Punting on Budget

The same Republicans who are refusing to do their job to confirm President Obama’s eventual SCOTUS nominee are also refusing to do their job to come up with a budget.

Democratic House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi attacked Republicans today for breaking another promise to the American people after they announced today that they would also be punting on the budget. Too hard, so sorry.

Pelosi’s office issued a statement today condemning Republicans for their “dysfunction-infection”:

Apparently, one of the symptoms of the GOP’s dysfunction-infection is severe amnesia.  It wasn’t so long ago, after all, that Republican Leaders were sounding off on the importance of passing a budget:

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell: “Another way to measure dysfunction is not passing a budget, which is required by law.†[1/14/16]

Speaker Paul Ryan, on not passing a budget: “The United States Congress has a moral — and legal — obligation to propose and pass budgets…†[6/8/11]

But now, House Republicans’ feverish failure to govern has quickly spread to the other side of the Capitol: Senate Republicans announced today that they too will punt action on the budget – ensuring that Republicans will fail to meet the April 1st statutory deadline for the Senate Budget Committee to report a budget resolution.

So what we have here is both chambers of Congress governed by Republicans who ran on a balanced budget but can’t even come up with a budget, let alone a balanced budget, due to the extremists in their party running the show. So what are the children of the Donald Trump party to do but punt. Punt. And punt again.

Of course they will find a way to blame President Obama for their failures. It’s what they do. Balanced budget? How about any budget? Can we get anything resembling a budget? Anything resembling Republicans doing their job?

High hopes dashed again.
