After getting crushed in the primary in his home state of Florida, one-time establishment favorite Sen. Marco Rubio dropped out of the race for the Republican nomination.

Rubio thanks his volunteers in all of the states that have voted. He restated his support for immigration reform. He outlined the anxieties in America and said that it would have been easier to choose a different route, but that is what he didn’t do. He talked about the tea party wave that carried him into the Senate. He said that after Republicans had got control of Congress, nothing changed.

Sen. Rubio blasted the establishment for looking down at conservatives as simple minded people and bomb throwers. Rubio said America needs a vibrant conservative movement that is built on principles and ideas, not on to play to people’s fear and anger.

Rubio took several shots at Trump during his speech, and it quickly became clear that this was his farewell address. Rubio laid out what he described as the right way forward for his party, and said that it is clear that this was not going to be his year.

Sen. Rubio had everything that Republicans look for on paper, but he was never able to connect with voters. Beyond it not being Rubio’s year, Marco Rubio was a deeply flawed candidate that never had a chance to win. The last of the great establishment hopes is now gone, as the Republican Party belongs to Donald Trump.
