Anonymous Declares War With #OperationTrump

Donald Trump has found himself another enemy. Not exactly a new enemy, as the “hactivist” collective Anonymous had already showed its displeasure over Trump’s statements about banning Muslim immigration. But now it is to be outright war. Their plan? “Dismantle his campaign.â€

“Dear Donald Trump, we have been watching you for a long time and what we see is deeply disturbing. Your inconsistent and hateful campaign has not only shocked the United States of America, you have shocked the entire planet with your appalling actions and ideas. You say what your current audience wants to hear, but in reality you don’t stand for anything except for your personal greed and power.â€

“This is a call to arms.”

“We need you to shut down his websites, to research and expose what he doesn’t want the public to know. We need to dismantle his campaign and sabotage his brand.”

“We are encouraging every able person with a computer watching this video to participate in this operation…Share this video. This is not a warning, this is a declaration of total war. Operation Trump engaged…Donald Trump – it is too late to expect us.”

This sounds ominous. Yet it is difficult to see how Anonymous could find anything more damning than Trump’s own Twitter account. He is publicly a hypocrite many times over, condemning China and Mexico while having his own clothing lines made there, and Politico has shown he tells a lie every five minutes.

None of this seems to matter. Perhaps Anonymous will change the equation. They’re certainly better at math than Donald Trump, as last night’s speech surely demonstrates. It can’t be certain what he was trying to do with numbers there, but whatever it was, it wasn’t working.

Donald Trump did run Marco Rubio out of the race – or perhaps its fairer to say Rubio ran himself out – but none of Trump’s ranting could defeat Kasich in his own state of Ohio. And perhaps this turn of events will prove to be a more potent remedy for Trump than anything Anonymous does.

More likely even than that to hurt Trump – with sane people at least – is continuing evidence of his erratic behavior in public. His ramblings, like his speech last night, have become as incoherent as anything put out by Sarah Palin. Time will tell.

So if it is impossible to know what effect Anonymous’ declaration will have, it does serve as a reminder that Trump’s rhetoric as well as his behavior is not normal, and that all sorts of people and organizations here and abroad are horrified by Trump, the forces he represents, and the forces his election would unleash.
