Republican front-runner Donald Trump’s inability to get to 1,237 delegates means trouble for Republican delegates and the party members. Personal trouble.
If a delegate criticizes Donald Trump or it looks like Trump might not win the delegates needed due to his own incompetence, that’s someone else’s fault and they must pay.
A Republican delegate from Indiana’s 4th Congressional District criticized Donald Trump and paid for it. Craig Dunn said, “When they reference burials and your family in the same email, and telling you that you’re being watched, that’s concerning.”
When delegate Kyle Babcock looked at the polls and decided he didn’t think Donald Trump could beat Hillary Clinton, he was threatened.
“Wrong side Kyle,” said one email, according to Politico. “Hope the families (sic) well. Your name and info was sent to me on a list that is going public. Think before you take a step down the wrong path, the American people want to have faith in your (sic) but it looks like a future in hiding is more appealing. The American.”
Nothing says “making America great again” like an “American” who uses improper grammar to threaten the families of the people with whom he or she disagrees.
While anyone who is online is aware that the threats coming from the Trump supporters follow suit from their leader in terms of being vicious, personal, childish and threatening, things amped up from even that level after Trump ally Roger Stone threatened to disclose hotel room numbers of delegates who don’t obey the Trump.
Speaking to Stefan Molyneux of Freedomain Radio, Stone said, “We’re going to have protests, demonstrations. We will disclose the hotels and the room numbers of those delegates who are directly involved in the steal. If you’re from Pennsylvania, we’ll tell you who the culprits are. We urge you to visit their hotel and find them. You have a right to discuss this, if you voted in the Pennsylvania primary, for example, and your votes are being disallowed.”
Imagine the joy of having one of those online insult and threat hurlers knocking on your hotel room door at 4 AM. Freedom to vote as you want? Not so much.
Tom John, a GOP district chair in Indiana, told Talking Points Memo , “There has definitely been some activity that’s ranged from proper First Amendment, if not proper English, responses to public comments to things that are a little bit more spooky or problematic…
There have been a few [messages] for myself and others that have referenced personal things, things you’ve said on social media, references to our families, references to our houses, things like that that feel a little bit more ominous.”
Donald Trump’s problem is not that anyone is stealing from him, although he is not paranoid to think that the Republican Party would steal from him. They would probably do anything to keep him from getting the nomination. Donald Trump’s problem is he didn’t hire staffers who understand the delegate rules.
Donald Trump still seems to think that winning the popular vote equals winning the nomination, which suggests he hasn’t been paying much attention to government, process or politics.
The other glaring problem that Donald Trump has is that his supporters follow his lead, and being petty and vindictive is the Donald’s way. He could not act like this as President. We’ve already had one peevish Republican who used the office to get revenge on real and imagined opponents, and no one is looking for another Nixon. But to be frank, Donald Trump makes Nixon look like a Boy Scout.
The Trump campaign is a campaign of thugs, cry babies and paper tigers. They are the worst of this country, not the best. It is no surprise that the Republican party base wants to elevate the worst to the White House.
