Republicans Turn The Senate Into A Joke By Investigating Facebook While Blocking SCOTUS Nominee

Senate Republicans are holding hearings on unsubstantiated allegations that Facebook keeps conservatives out of the Trending Topics section while refusing to their jobs and vote on President Obama’s Supreme Court nominee.

U.S. Senator John Thune (R-SD), chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation announced that he will be holding hearings on Facebook bias.

In a letter to Mark Zuckerberg, Thune tried to justify this latest Republican waste of time and taxpayer money, “Facebook must answer these serious allegations and hold those responsible to account if there has been political bias in the dissemination of trending news. Any attempt by a neutral and inclusive social media platform to censor or manipulate political discussion is an abuse of trust and inconsistent with the values of an open Internet.”

Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid’s spokesman, Adam Jentleson responded with what everyone was already thinking, “The Republican Senate refuses to hold hearings on Judge Garland, refuses to fund the President’s request for Zika aid and takes the most days off of any Senate since 1956, but thinks Facebook hearings are a matter of urgent national interest. The taxpayers who pay Republican senators’ salaries probably want their money back.”

Voting on a Supreme Court nominee, while the highest court in the land struggles with only eight justices, is not as important making sure that there is no bias in the Facebook Trending Topics section.

This is what the Republican controlled United States Senate does. They don’t pass any legislation of substance. Republican Senators routinely ignore their duties under the Constitution. The Republican Senators are historically lazy, but they are holding hearings into potential bias a social media company.

No evidence has been provided that Facebook has any bias against Republicans, but this is the same party that wasted years and millions of taxpayer dollars investigating imaginary bias at the IRS, so it is no surprise that they are going after Facebook.

Facebook is a private company. Congress has no oversight power over Facebook. Sen. Thune is preparing to waste time that could be spent holding hearings on Judge Garland on investigating Facebook.

The “Facebook investigation” is proof that Senate Republicans are ripping off the taxpayers. The only way that credibility will ever be restored to the US Senate is if Democrats retake the majority in November.
