Ryan was asked are you endorsing Trump, and if not, what is holding you back.

The Speaker of the House answered, The process of unifying the Republican Party, which just finished a primary about a week ago, perhaps one of the most divisive primaries in memory takes some time. Look there are people who are for Donald Trump, who are for Ted Cruz, who are for John Kasich, who are for Marco Rubio, and everybody else. It’s very important that we don’t fake unifying. We don’t pretend unification so that we are full strength in the fall. I don’t want us to have a fake unification process here.”

Paul Ryan’s choice to dodge the question speaks volumes about how the meeting with Trump went. Ryan’s press conference was a disaster. The Speaker of the House is presenting the opposite of a unified party.

Speaker Ryan doesn’t have a choice. He is stuck with Donald Trump. This dance that he is doing over an endorsement is for his own ego and media attention. The rest of the Congressional Republican leadership has already gotten in line behind Trump.

Ryan is playing games, and his press conference did not help the Republican cause.
