Hillary Clinton Crushes Bernie Sanders In Puerto Rico Democratic Primary

Hillary Clinton is the projected winner of the Democratic primary in Puerto Rico.

Clinton sprinted out to a large 64%-35% lead with 22% of the vote in and never looked back. The former Sec. of State beat Barack Obama by 36% in Puerto Rico, and she may improve on her 2008 performance in 2016. Clinton already has pledges from 6 of the 7 superdelegates in the territory, and her large win will move her to within a handful of delegates of clinching the nomination.
The AP delegate tracker had Clinton 60 votes short of the nomination, while the NBC News delegate tracker has Clinton 54 delegates short of the magic number.

During an interview on CNN today, Sanders vowed to take his fight for the nomination to the convention, “Look, again I don’t want to speculate about who will end up having more pledged delegates. She is ahead of us right now, no question. But California is coming up. We’ve got 475 pledged delegates here. You don’t know what the world is going to be like four weeks from now, five weeks. But let’s not forget the Democratic convention is the end of July. That’s a long time from today.”

Sen. Sanders wants his supporters to believe that the superdelegates are going to flip, but they aren’t. Clinton won’t officially become the Democratic nominee until the convention, but she will clinch the number of delegates to be nominated on Tuesday. The win in Puerto Rico wasn’t a surprise, but it was an important step towards Clinton padding her delegate lead on the march to the nomination.
