It wasn’t just enthusiastic Democrats who praised the historic victory speech that Hillary Clinton delivered on Tuesday night. Trump-endorser and potential running mate New Gingrich also called the presumptive Democratic nominee’s speech “spectacular” in a Facebook Live video.

“She gave a spectacular speech last night,” Gingrich said. “No conservative, no Republican should assume that she’s going to be a pushover. I think she’s going to be formidable.”

The comments by the former Speaker of the House come days after Gingrich said Trump’s racist attacks on Judge Gonzalo Curiel were “inexcusable.” Trump fired back, of course, calling the criticism “inappropriate.

In an interview with CNN on Wednesday, Gingrich also said that Trump has made “the kinds of mistakes that amateurs make.” The former Speaker of the House used even harsher language earlier today at a conference in California, calling Trump an “absurd amateur.”

Not long ago, Newt Gingrich was the leading contender to be Donald Trump’s VP selection, but it appears those odds are becoming slimmer by the day. According to ElectionBettingOdds.com, Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions has surpassed Gingrich as the likeliest Republican to be nominated as Trump’s running mate at next month’s GOP convention in Cleveland.

In any case, the number of Republicans willing to be Trump’s number two has certainly decreased over the past week. If Gingrich continues to praise Clinton and criticize Trump, he’ll be the next one crossed off the increasingly short list.
