Paul Krugman Demolishes Trump’s Promotion of a Strong Vladimir Putin

Last updated on July 17th, 2023 at 09:09 pm

Donald Trump’s bromance with Russian strongman Vladimir Putin seems unending. At every opportunity he praises the former KGB officer, saying Putin is “stronger” than Obama and that as a leader he has done “far more than our president.”

It’s true. President Obama hasn’t invaded anyone in eight years, to Trump a sorry record to put against Putin’s annexation of the Crimea and encroachments in Ukraine, not to mention saber rattling in general in Eastern Europe.

However, Trump seems to equate bluster with talent, and not only in his own case. And in a single tweet, Donald Trump’s favorite form of self-promotion, economist and New York Times columnist Paul Krugman destroys Donald Trump’s praise of Vladimir Putin’s prowess:

Hillary Clinton stated that Trump’s support for Putin is “not just unpatriotic and insulting to the people of our country, as well as to our commander in chief — it is scary.” That only prompted Trump to double-down on his love of Putin, with Mike Pence claiming on CNN that,

“I think it’s inarguable that Vladimir Putin has been a stronger leader in his country than Barack Obama has been in this country. And that’s going to change the day that Donald Trump becomes president.”

The Kremlin hasn’t had anything to say about Trump’s latest praise-fest, and under the *hacking* circumstances, probably the less said the better at this point.
