With A Month To Go, New CNN Poll Shows A Seven-Point Swing Toward Hillary Clinton

As Donald Trump’s campaign continues a catastrophic stretch following last month’s debate, Hillary Clinton has stormed ahead of the Republican nominee in a poll that showed him leading last month.

According to the survey, the Democratic nominee has pulled ahead of Trump by five points – 47 to 42 – in a contest that includes third-party candidates Gary Johnson and Jill Stein. In a head-to-head match-up, Clinton wins a majority of the vote – 51 percent to Trump’s 45 percent.

Last month, Trump was beating Clinton in a four-way race by two points, 45 to 43.

The latest numbers are great for Clinton with just a month left before the election and as many voters are already voting, but the timing of the poll suggests they could get even better for her.

Since the survey was conducted from Sept. 28 to Oct. 2 (the day the huge New York Times story broke), it’s likely that Trump’s numbers could worsen as the tax story continues to play out, particularly given voters’ opinions of paying taxes.

Almost all voters believe that paying their fair share is the patriotic thing to do.

According to CNN, “Voters are in near-universal agreement, though, that paying taxes is every American’s civic duty. Nearly 9-in-10 feel that way while just 12% say they see taxes as an unnecessary burden to be avoided.”

Even among Trump supporters, about 80 percent feel that paying taxes is the right thing to do – something their own candidate likely avoided doing for decades.

While the CNN poll is reflection of Hillary Clinton’s strong debate performance, it’s also a ticking time bomb for Trump as it still has yet to fully absorb Trump’s trainwreck of a few days.
