2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney blasted Donald Trump after a tape was leaked to the Washington Post in which Donald Trump was heard admitting committing sexual assault on women and referring to them as the p word and “it”.
Romney could barely contain his disgust over Donald Trump’s comments, tweeting, “Hitting on married women? Condoning assault? Such vile degradations demean our wives and daughters and corrupt America’s face to the world.”

This matters because in the four years since Mitt Romney ran, the Republican Party has sank so low that their base picked Donald Trump and their elected politicians have defended him time and time again no matter what he has been accused of.
RNC Chairman Reince Priebus thinks the problem is Trump’s foul language, but husbands, fathers, sons, and brothers like Mitt Romney know the problem is the Donald Trump is destroying our national soul by demeaning women to this degree.
And women know that the problem is the chilling predatory contempt with which Donald Trump views women.
Donald Trump’s sick, dehumanizing attitude toward women makes Mitt Romney’s “Binders full of women” remark look quaint.
Mitt Romney might have held old fashioned beliefs about women, but he did not enable and incite and condone violence toward women. Mitt Romney was the caring but condescending patriarch.
Donald Trump is the man women are afraid of.
This is where the Republican Party is right now, and it’s so repulsive that it’s hard to write about without vomiting. It’s obvious that Mitt Romney feels the same disgust, and in this I take comfort because it shows that so many men know this is wrong. They know that women are not “its”.
Shame on the entire Republican Party. They owe American women a huge apology, but I’m not sure that will even suffice at this point. This is an assault on women and girls, and to think of a little girl hearing what Donald Trump said on that bus is just heartbreaking.
