The “new developments” in the Clinton email scandal have reached the level of a total farce as FBI Director James Comey lacks the warrants to view the emails that he mentioned in his letter to Congress.
Yahoo News reported that Comey lacks the ability to read the emails that he was notifying Congress about:
As of Saturday night, the FBI had still not gotten approval from the Justice Department for a warrant that would allow agency officials to read any of the newly discovered Abedin emails, and therefore are still in the dark about whether they include any classified material that the bureau has not already seen.
“We do not have a warrant,” a senior law enforcement official said. “Discussions are under way [between the FBI and the Justice Department] as to the best way to move forward.”
Comey sent the letter to Congress without getting the warrant so that he could review the emails, which explains why his letter was so vague. The FBI Director has no idea what is in these emails, or whether or not the emails are duplicates of previously reviewed material.
James Comey upended a presidential election, because of emails that he hadn’t reviewed. With each new detail, Comey’s actions are looking more reckless and irresponsible.
The only thing left is for Comey to hold a press conference to walk back the letter itself. A press conference seems the like the only thing left to do because the mess that Comey caused is a total joke and a disgrace to the FBI.
