While Democratic leadership is saying all the needed words to help with a smooth transition to power, an angry Democratic base is sending a loud and clear message that they will never accept Donald Trump as their president.
The hashtag #NotMyPresident is trending on Twitter.
Here are some of the reactions from Democrats:
Worst day in America 9/11. Second worst day in America, 11/9. 😪#NotMyPresident

I will respect Trump just as much as conservatives have respected Obama for the past 8 years #NotMyPresident

The Democratic base feels like their country has been stolen from them. They feel like their progress has been hijacked.
Donald Trump and the Republican Party are going to be in for a very long next two years. The last time Democrats were this motivated, they took back Congress, and then they took back the White House. Trump begins his time in office looking like a one-termer waiting to happen.
Democrats are already getting past their disappointment, and digging in to restore progress and take their country back.
