Former Bush Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and former Bush and Obama Defense Secretary Robert Gates “strongly endorse” Putin pal and Exxon CEO Rex Tillerson for Secretary of State.
Of course, their endorsement is largely meaningless because as NBC’s Katy Tur points out,
Both of whom are paid consultants for Exxon https://t.co/XNHUUgoRLo

The news about Gates comes via Fox & Friends:
Fmr Defense Secretary Robert Gates: "I strongly endorse the President-Elect's selection of Rex Tillerson to be the next Secretary of State." pic.twitter.com/afAZ13pMGc

According to Gates,
“He would bring to the position vast knowledge, experience and success in dealing with dozens of governments and leaders in every corner of the world…He is a person of great integrity whose only goal in office would be to protect and advance the interests of the United States.”
Oh, and in case you’re worried about the whole Exxon thing, Gates wants you to know that,
“While ExxonMobil was one of many clients of RiceHadleyGates, I met Rex earlier through our mutual involvement in and leadership of the Boy Scouts of America.”
Rice was equally effusive in a Facebook post, without happening to mention those oh so important business ties to the man she is endorsing:
“Rex Tillerson is an excellent choice for Secretary of State. He will bring to the post remarkable and broad international experience; a deep understanding of the global economy; and a belief in America’s special role in the world.
“I know Rex as a successful business man and a patriot. He will represent the interests and the values of the United States with resolve and commitment. And he will lead the exceptional men and women of the State Department with respect and dedication.
“I look forward to supporting Rex through the confirmation process and then welcoming him to the family of Secretaries of State.”
You know we’re in trouble when it’s left to the likes of Marco Rubio to question Tillerson’s “moral clarity” and “potential conflicts of interest.”
Watch the corrupt congregate at Trump Tower. At some point, one has to wonder if the whole thing will fall over, not simply because of shoddy Trump construction but because it’s so top-heavy with inflated egos and other peoples’ money.
As endorsements, this is about as reassuring as Bernie Madoff telling us Trump is a righteous dude.
