Al Franken Stands Up For Democratic Values By Opposing Jeff Sessions For Attorney General

Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) is standing up for Democratic Party values by announcing that he will vote against the nomination of Sen. Jeff Sessions to be the next attorney general.

Franken announced that he would not be voting for Sessions during an appearance on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, and followed up with a longer statement on his Facebook page:

Despite treating Sessions softly at his Judiciary Committee hearing, Senate Democrats are lining up in opposition to Sen. Sessions nomination.

Senate Democratic Leader Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) announced earlier this week that he will oppose the nomination of Sen. Sessions, “After reviewing his record and giving careful consideration to his answers during the hearing, I am not confident in Senator Sessions’ ability to be a defender of the rights of all Americans, or to serve as an independent check on the incoming administration. I am also deeply concerned by his views on immigration, which I saw firsthand during the push for comprehensive immigration reform. For those reasons, I will oppose his nomination to serve as the next Attorney General.”

Sen. Sessions is openly hostile towards the concept of equal rights for minorities, which people like he and Ben Carson like call “special rights.” Al Franken is standing up for the foundation of the Democratic Party, which is a belief that those who are most likely to be discriminated against must be protected under the law.

Jeff Sessions doesn’t believe in equality, which makes him completely unfit to be attorney general.

Senators like Al Franken are making sure that those who value equal justice know that Jeff Sessions is not the right person to serve as the nation’s next attorney general.
