The latest ABC News/Washington Post poll contains even more bad news for Trump, as 74% of Americans, including 53% of Republicans, want to see his tax returns.
The Washington Post reported, “Trump’s continued refusal to release his tax returns continues to be an unpopular decision, with 74 percent of Americans saying he should make the documents public, including 53 percent of Republicans.”

The numbers are dire for Trump. Eighty-nine percent of Democrats, 75% of Independents, and 53% of Republicans all want Trump to release his tax returns. Contrary to Trump’s claims that the American people don’t care about his tax returns, 41% of respondents say they care a lot while 33% responded that they cared not so much.

By a small margin of 44%-43% respondents also believed that Trump, his family, and advisers aren’t complying with federal ethics laws. Trump’s percentages were boosted by the 79% of Republicans who believe that that the president-elect is complying with ethics laws.

Trump already has the lowest job approval rating of any president-elect in history, but this poll indicates that his problems go much deeper than like and dislike. People don’t trust Trump, and they want proof to back up his claims.

The game has changed on the president-elect. As president, he is no longer going to be able to say “believe me,” and that will be good enough. Trump has major problems, and he can’t wish them away by claiming that people don’t care about his tax returns and his conflicts of interest.

People care, and Trump’s refusal to answer their questions will sink his presidency.
