As part of his daily Twitter rant, Donald Trump tweeted a huge lie about President Obama and Guantanamo detainees, apparently again motivated by a story on Fox & Friends this morning:
122 vicious prisoners, released by the Obama Administration from Gitmo, have returned to the battlefield. Just another terrible decision!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) March 7, 2017
Never mind that it’s a complete fabrication:
The Coward-in-Command is up & lying, this time #Guantanamo. Does @realDonaldTrump / @POTUS have a pathological inability to tell the truth? pic.twitter.com/xXn6O0cMBR

Trump watches Fox & Friends, then tweets (this time, neglecting that 113 of 122 detainees were released by Pres. Bush). This is SO reckless. pic.twitter.com/pNjRXJHCAG

That’s right: just 9 of the detainees that Trump blames President Obama for this morning were actually released by Obama. And yes, Donald Trump does seem to suffer from a pathological inability to tell the truth.
However, for Trump, it’s a win. It’s a distraction from the very real problems in his administration and it pushes the right buttons among his supporters, who will be repeating the lie all day long.
