John McCain Tells Trump To Retract His Baseless Wiretap Allegation Against Obama

President Trump should either provide evidence of his charge that former President Barack Obama wiretapped him or he should retract his accusation, Senator John McCain (R-AZ) said during a Sunday appearance on CNN’s State of the Union.

“The president has one of two choices: Either retract or provide the information that the American people deserve,” McCain told host Jake Tapper.

“Because if his predecessor violated the law, President Obama violated the law, we’ve got a serious issue here, to say the least,” McCain said.

Then McCain pointed out how easy it would be for Trump to prove his charge if it were true, “I have no reason to believe that the charge is true, but I also believe that the president of the United States could clear this up in a minute.”

Basically, McCain is saying that Trump doesn’t have the evidence, because if he did it would be easy to prove.

“All he has to do is pick up the phone, call the director of the CIA, director of national intelligence and say, ‘OK, what happened?’ Because they certainly should know whether the former president of the United States was wiretapping Trump Tower.”

Retract. Put up or shut up and since he can’t put up, Trump needs to shut up. That’s the message from a Republican Senator who is no fan of President Obama’s, in fact McCain’s bitterness over losing the 2008 election to Obama has been an undercurrent of his comments for years.

So go the Republican dominoes. John McCain has become known for talking a good game but then backing down to Republican leadership when it comes to actual votes. But on this matter, on a matter of the security of our nation, McCain’s concern seems deeply rooted and genuine.
