The Republican Party is setting itself up for a disastrous midterm bloodbath in 2018 if they follow through with their Obamacare replacement plan, which will hurt the most reliable voters in the country – senior citizens.
Not only did the Congressional Budget Office analysis of Trumpcare find that a total of 54 million Americans would be uninsured under the GOP plan, but it also found that people who keep their insurance – especially those in their 60s – will face devastating consequences.
As MSNBC’s Chris Hayes noted on Tuesday, the premium for a 64-year-old making $26,500 a year would amount to more than half of that person’s salary under the Trump-supported health care plan. In short, it would make it nearly impossible to afford coverage.

As Hayes mentioned, citing the CBO report, seniors would see their premiums skyrocket by 750 percent under the Republican plan – from $1,700 under the Affordable Care Act to $14,600 under Trumpcare.
Many of the older Americans who will see the catastrophic consequences of the new plan are white, rural folks, like those Bernie Sanders met with in an MSNBC town hall that aired last night. These are the same people who turned out for Trump in the largest numbers last fall and are often the most reliable voters – especially during midterm election years.
Trumpcare is political suicide for the president and his Republican colleagues in Congress. If they don’t abandon it, they will face a midterm bloodbath in 2018.
