The Investigator Gets Investigated As Rep. Elijah Cummings Calls For Probe Of Devin Nunes

The top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) is calling for an investigation into House Intelligence Committee Chairman Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) after the Intel Committee chair gave information to a White House under investigation.

Rep. Cummings was asked on CNN’s New Day if he had ever heard of a chair taking information to the target of an investigation.

Cummings answered, “No. I was ranking member of the Benghazi Committee, never allowed that to happen. “They are privileged to information that most members of Congress may never see and so you expect them to be extremely confidential. What he did was basically to go to the president, who’s being investigated, by the FBI and others and by the intelligence committee, to give them information. Basically, what he has done is scuttled his own investigation, and he has become the subject. Basically, he should be under investigation.”

Rep. Cummings (D-MD) is the ranking member of the House Oversight Committee. This is not some backbench member calling for an investigation of Nunes. Cummings has a large platform of his own, and if the ranking member of the Oversight Committee is calling for the Intelligence Committee chair to be investigated, it is a sure sign that the conspiracy to protect Trump on the Russia runs through the Executive and Legislative branches of the US government.

The reason why the Russia scandal has the potential to be worse than Watergate is that Trump tainted actors like Rep. Devin Nunes are using their prominent positions and misusing the powers granted to them as committee chairs to protect Donald Trump.

Devin Nunes was a member of the Trump transition team that is under FBI investigation. His actions on Wednesday compromised the House Intelligence Committee and made it obvious that any congressional investigator with ties to Trump must also be investigated.
