Trump Hides From The Press While Signing Bill Allowing States To Defund Planned Parenthood

Trump signed the unpopular rollback of the Obama regulation that didn’t allow states to defend Planned Parenthood’s family planning in a closed press event with no television cameras allowed.

The report on the signing came from the White House pool report provided to PoliticusUSA:

At 11:49 a.m., after the President signed H.J. Res. 43, which allows states to withhold federal funds from facilities that provide abortion services, three attendees of the closed-press signing appeared at the stakeout for brief statements.

They were: CMS Administrator Seema Verma; Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the Susan B.Anthony List; and Penny Nance, CEO of Concerned Women for America.

Trump didn’t have the guts to stand up before the American people and sign this unpopular legislation that only passed the Senate because Vice President Mike Pence voted to break the tie.

Independent polling has found that defunding Planned Parenthood is very unpopular with voters. A January 2017 Quinnipiac University poll found that voters opposed defunding Planned Parenthood by a 2-1 margin (31% favor, 62% oppose).

Voters aren’t stupid. They are going to find out about what Trump is doing whether cameras are in the room or not.

Trump is governing in hiding. The cowardly president won’t face the people and defend his radical agenda.

The people understand what this administration is all about, and signing unpopular legislation behind closed doors won’t help Trump or his party when voters go to the polls in 2018.
