According to a historian, Donald Trump feels that just as he is the only one who can fix all our myriad problems today, he alone, apparently, could have done a deal to stop the Civil War.
That’s right. Pulitzer Prize-winning historian and Jefferson biographer Jon Meacham revealed the heights of Trump’s hubris on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” Tuesday, saying,
“He told me a year and a half ago or so, a year ago, that, you know, he thought he could have done a deal to have averted the war.”

This is the same guy, mind you, who did not have any idea that Abraham Lincoln was a Republican or that Andrew Jackson died 16 years before the Civil War or that anybody EVER had thought about the causes of the Civil War.
According to Meacham,
“It’s very hard, once you’re there, to change. Some people do, and that’s why we talk about them as great presidents. But most people, once they’re in the Oval Office, actually just become more like themselves — and I think in this case that’s on a particularly tragic trajectory.”
Donald Trump has not been able to “do a deal” to get any legislation passed in his first 100 Days, but he thinks he could have stopped the bloodiest war in American history from taking place despite his complete lack of knowledge on either the subject or that period of history.
The only accomplishments in his first 100 Days to which Trump can point are the result of executive orders, and even there he has faced repeated failures to ban Muslims from this country thanks to his unwillingness to read the United States Constitution.
The American Civil War was not a problem that could have been made to go away by an executive order, particularly one that would probably have been unconstitutional anyway.
