James Comey Busted For Lying To Congress About Clinton Emails In Testimony

It is being reported that FBI Director James Comey made inaccurate statements to Congress last week as he falsely stated the number and frequency of Clinton emails that were forwarded to Anthony Weiner.

ProPublica reported:
Perhaps Comey’s most surprising revelation was that Huma Abedin — Weiner’s wife and a top Clinton deputy — had made “a regular practice” of forwarding “hundreds and thousands” of Clinton messages to her husband, “some of which contain classified information.” Comey testified that Abedin had done this so that the disgraced former congressman could print them out for her boss. (Weiner’s laptop was seized after he came under criminal investigation for sex crimes, following a media report about his online relationship with a teenager.)

….

According to two sources familiar with the matter — including one in law enforcement — Abedin forwarded only a handful of Clinton emails to her husband for printing — not the “hundreds and thousands” cited by Comey. It does not appear Abedin made “a regular practice” of doing so. Other officials said it was likely that most of the emails got onto the computer as a result of backups of her Blackberry.

It appears that Director Comey exaggerated the severity of the “crisis” the caused him to release a letter that swung the presidential election to Donald Trump.

Proving that someone lied under oath is very difficult. Comey and the FBI can argue that the Director simply remembered incorrectly and that it was an honest mistake. If this was the case, then the Bureau could have released a letter or statement of clarification. There would not be a need to pause and determine the future course of action.

Organizations only face uncertainty about what to do when a leader makes a false statement if they have reason to believe that the inaccurate statement might not have been an accident. It makes perfect sense for Comey to make an inaccurate statement if he knew that his action in sending the letter was wrong.

James Comey got caught trying to justify the unjustifiable, and get himself off the hook for getting Trump elected.

The question is what happens to the FBI Director if he intentionally lied to Congress?
