James Comey’s Republican Father Obliterates Trump, Says He ‘Belongs In An Institution’

While former FBI Director James Comey has remained quiet since Donald Trump fired him, Comey’s father apparently has no problems jumping into the ring to take on the “nuts” president.

In a new report from NorthJersey.com, the ex-FBI director’s dad minced no words, suggesting Trump should be put “in an institution.”

Comey’s father turned Trump’s harsh opinion of his son against him, calling the president’s credibility into question.

“I never was crazy about Trump,” J. Brien Comey, 86, a Republican and a former borough councilman, said in an interview. “I’m convinced that he’s nuts. I thought he belonged in an institution. He was crazy before he became president. Now he’s really crazy.”

It’s pretty telling that the father of a former FBI director would come out so forcefully against the president who just fired – and is now threatening – his son, but it goes to show that Trump is widely seen as a clear and present danger, and people who may have normally stayed quiet are inclined to speak out.

The elder Comey’s comments come amidst the news that his son will be testifying before the Senate Intelligence Committee in an open session sometime after the Memorial Day holiday.

As Jason Easley wrote earlier today, Comey is expected to tell Congress that “Donald Trump intended to interfere with the Russia investigation,” which has the potential to “blow up the main defense that Republicans have been using that the President wasn’t trying to interfere with the investigation when he met with former FBI Director.”

The comments made by Comey’s father may be harsh, but things are likely to heat up even more in the coming days as the ex-FBI director heads to Congress.
