Trump Puppet Devin Nunes Is Still In A Position To Interfere With The Russia Investigation

Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) is still in charge of the House Intelligence Committee’s ability to issue subpoenas in the Russia investigation, which means that the White House still someone in a position to interfere with the investigation.

CNN reported, “In a private meeting this week, House intelligence committee members discussed their plans to move ahead with the Russia investigation into meddling in the US election. And the GOP members made clear that the current rules of the committee still apply: That Nunes can issue the subpoenas “upon consultation with” ranking Democrat Adam Schiff or by a vote of the full committee, according to several sources familiar with the matter. The decision means Nunes still has significant sway to influence the direction of the probe, despite announcing in April that while he would still remain chairman of the committee but temporarily step aside from leading the investigation as the House Ethics Committee planned to investigate him for potentially disclosing classified information.”

The Nunes situation is a shining example of why the congressional investigations aren’t going to be able to conduct an honest probe into Trump and Russia. Republicans, like Nunes, are working behind the scenes to disrupt an investigation that has already been tainted by the reach of the Trump campaign into the Republican leadership of Congress and partisan politics. The ability of the Legislative Branch to investigate the Executive Branch has been compromised by this scandal.

An independent investigation is needed. The special counsel within the Justice Department is not enough. There are still numerous ways for the Trump and the White House to legally get rid of Robert Mueller. The American people need to know the truth about the Russian interference in the 2016 election, and any possible Trump campaign collusion with Russia. The truth will only be uncovered by a completely independent investigation.

As long as Devin Nunes continues to hover over the committee, the House investigation can be corrupted.
