Rep. Al Green (D-TX) is drawing up impeachment articles against Donald Trump. While his impeachment articles won’t be a factor in 2017, if Democrats take back the House in 2018, the prospects for impeachment will get real.
The Hill reported, “Green’s criticisms focus on Trump’s firing of former FBI Director James Comey, who was leading the administration’s probe into Russia’s meddling in the 2016 elections. Trump had reportedly pressured Comey earlier in the year to drop the investigation into Michael Flynn, Trump’s former national security advisor, who was fired after lying about the nature of his conversations with a Russian ambassador.”
Rep. Green has rejected the effort by House Democratic leadership to tamp down talk of impeachment, and even though his articles will have no immediate impact, they represent the growing popular sentiment that Donald Trump should be impeached.
The fact that serious conversations are being held about impeachment less than five months into Trump’s term illustrates how deeply troubled and scandal-filled this president is. People are taking Rep. Green seriously because even if 2017 isn’t the time, the moment is approaching quickly when Trump may be looking impeachment square in the eye.
