Dem Congressman Promises Impeachment Proceedings If Trump Fires Mueller And Rosenstein

After Donald Trump’s latest Twitter meltdown which targeted Special Counsel Robert Mueller and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, concerns are rising that the president is on the verge of firing the two men.

Democratic Rep. Ted Lieu said late Friday that if Trump does, in fact, fire Mueller and Rosenstein, Congress will quickly come together to begin impeachment proceedings.

All Americans, regardless of party, agree on the fundamental principle that no one is above the law. And if President Trump were to fire Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein and then got Special Counsel Mueller fired, I believe Congress would begin impeachment proceedings.

The Democratic congressman’s comment came as a key Democrat in the Senate, Dianne Feinstein offered her own concerns stemming from Trump’s tweets.

In a statement, Feinstein said, “The message the president is sending through his tweets is that he believes the rule of law doesn’t apply to him and that anyone who thinks otherwise will be fired. That’s undemocratic on its face and a blatant violation of the president’s oath of office.”

The Democratic senator added that Trump “would be wise to learn” that laws apply to everybody, even the President of the United States.

The warnings from Democrats that impeachment is on the table come after Trump posted a series of tweets in recent days whining about the ongoing investigation into his administration’s ties to Russia and his personal attempts to obstruct that investigation.

Two tweets, in particular, appear to reference both Rosenstein and Mueller:

With the frequency of the president’s Twitter tantrums increasing as the investigation continues to darken the cloud over the White House, there is no telling what Trump may do simply out of desperation.

If he does the unthinkable and fires the key players in the investigation into Russia and potential obstruction of justice, then impeachment proceedings will soon follow.
