KASIE HUNT: Honestly, Andrea, we’re still having a hard time getting people to answer our questions. I’ve had more Republican senators run the other way from the cameras than towards us to talk to us about this health care bill. And quite frankly, the people we have talked to have been skeptical. Sen. Pat Roberts of Kansas who could generally be considered a reliable vote with Mitch McConnell and others who have been working on writing this bill said it is the best possible vote but under very difficult circumstances. There’s nobody out here selling this bill this a real way, and I just spoke to Sen. Rand Paul who said that this doesn’t feel like it repeals Obamacare.

Republicans draft a bill in secret, refuse to hold any hearings, and then when asked by reporters if they support the legislations, Senators who were elected to represent the people, run away and refuse to answer. What we are seeing is not democracy. It is a conspiracy to make health care more expensive in order to pay for a tax cut for the very wealthy.

Republicans are running away from questions because they have no defense for this bill. They can’t sell the legislation as good for the American people because for the vast majority of Americans this plan will be a disaster. They can’t call this bill what it is, a tax cut for the super wealthy because the opposition would turn into an open public protest, but Senators have a duty to keep the people that they are representing informed.

If Republican Senators refuse to be held accountable for their secret healthcare bill, voters need to elect new Senators.
