Former Obama White House Cabinet Secretary and Deputy Labor Secretary Chris Lu slammed Republican Senators for their hypocrisy on healthcare, saying they wouldn’t consider plans for themselves that offer what the GOP plan offers for the people.
“Average age of U.S. Senator is 62. None would buy health insurance lacking these benefits. So why is it okay for their constituents?” Mr. Lu asked on Twitter.

The hypocrisy coming from Republicans on health care is expected. Of course, Senate Republicans would never buy this plan for themselves, but the point is that they would never have to. Senate Republicans are changing the healthcare system to a cash-based economy. Millionaire Senate Republicans can afford to pay more out of pocket, so the changes in the GOP health care bill won’t impact them.
In a world where Republicans had to choose, they would never pick this plan in a million years. What Republicans are proposing is health insurance that costs more, covers less, and will discriminate against people with preexisting conditions.
Lu’s point confirms that this healthcare bill isn’t about doing what’s best for the American people. The point of this legislation is to give a big tax cut for the wealthiest Americans.
Republicans would never buy this plan, and the problem is that they don’t have to.
