John McCain’s office announced on Monday that the Arizona senator will return to the Senate on Tuesday to cast a key vote that could help Republicans overcome a key procedural vote in their effort to take health insurance away from millions of Americans.
The short statement provided from McCain’s office:
“Senator McCain looks forward to returning to the United States Senate tomorrow to continue working on important legislation, including health care reform, the National Defense Authorization Act, and new sanctions on Russia, Iran and North Korea.”
The announcement comes on the heels of McCain undergoing a blood clot procedure last week after which he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer.
McCain is likely to have a tough fight ahead, but there is no question that he will receive world class care during his battle with cancer – a privilege that too many Americans don’t have. If Senate Republicans, with McCain’s help, pass their legislation to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, millions of people will lose access to the same care the Arizona senator is getting.
Every American wished Sen. McCain well when the sad news of his cancer diagnosis broke last week. When he returns to Washington on Tuesday, he should vote to return the favor – not deny his constituents the same benefits he is so lucky to have.
