Blumenthal replied:

Trump believes that the President is above the law. He also believes that the President Of The United States is not a civilian. Sen. Blumenthal struck at the heart of the reason for some of Trump’s failure as president. Donald Trump won the Republican nomination by bullying his opponents. He bullied Jeb Bush, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, and John Kasich. Trump spent the presidential debates menacing as he attempted to bully Hillary Clinton.

As president, Trump’s problem with Congress is that the bullying doesn’t work. Congress isn’t intimidated by anything Trump says or does. They are a co-equal branch of the federal government, so when Trump tries to bully, they do what Sen. Blumenthal did, they ignore the dumb personal attacks and get back to the matter at hand.

The entire premise of Trump’s view of the presidency is that he is above the law. The underlying battle between Congress and the President on Russia is the definition of executive power. The six words that are the driving force at the heart of this matter is the belief by those in Congress that no one is above the law.
