Fox News’s Sheppard Smith announced during his program that they couldn’t find a single to Republican who would come on his show and defend Donald Trump’s comments about white supremacists and Nazis being good people.
Max Tani of Business Insider tweeted:
Things are so bad that Republicans, who have mostly issued vague statements that have not called out Trump by name, aren’t willing to go on the always gentle and friendly Fox News to defend their president. Republicans are inching closer and closer to the point where they pretend like Trump doesn’t exist. They are already moving in this direction legislatively by ignoring most of his demands and requests, for example, to repeal Obamacare, and now they are reaching the level where they don’t want to go on Fox News to defend him.
It takes no courage to hide from the media. Real courage would be if Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Speaker of the House Paul Ryan released a joint statement denouncing the President by name. Republicans have shown no such courage, with the notable exception of Sen. Lindsey Graham. The Trump train hasn’t just derailed. It has gone straight off the cliff and left nothing but a puff of smoke behind.
When Fox News can’t find a Republican to defend him, Trump has really hit rock bottom.
