Democrats got a win as the House passed their disaster relief/CR/debt limit bill with Trump 316-90.
House and Republicans are livid over the deal because it gave Democrats everything that they wanted, but they did nothing to stop it. The deal has empowered Democrats in both the House and Senate. With Republicans having an overwhelming majority in the House, and control of the Senate, Democrats shouldn’t have a seat at the table, but they will now because Trump made a terrible deal.
It is telling that House Republicans repeated a pattern that was present since they took control of the House during the Obama presidency. House Republicans talk a big game. They bluster. They threaten, and they tantrum, but when they are faced with must pass legislation, even Democratic legislation, they cave and pass the bill.
The lesson that Republicans are hoping Trump doesn’t get is that he can get a whole lot more done by working with Democrats than he can by trying jam through legislation with Republicans alone. Trump could triangulate and keep putting McConnell and Ryan in an impossible position simply by working with Democrats.

Pelosi and Schumer are better leaders than Ryan and McConnell. They keep their Democrats together and deliver the votes when needed.
The House Republicans are so extreme that four Texas Republicans voted no on the bill (Reps. Barton, Hensarling, Johnson, Thornberry.)
Thanks to Trump’s bad deal making skills, Democrats have more power than they ever should have as the minority party in Congress, as House Republicans have shown that when the pressure is on their first instinct is to roll over and play dead.
