Looking at how this administration played out, the former first lady’s message could be expanded beyond women to include immigrants, persons with disabilities, Hispanics, or anyone who is not a conservative white male. Too many voters were suckered into the media narrative that Trump and Clinton were equally bad when even the most casual common sense examination of the two candidates revealed this not to be true.
Hillary Clinton using a private email server was never equal to Trump bragging about sexually assaulting women. Trump’s refusal to release his medical records and tax returns were not the same as the Benghazi conspiracy theory. The media falsely equated them and in the process depressed voter turnout and caused people to tune out on the election.
Michelle Obama was correct. Women and all others who bought the lies that Trump and the Republicans were selling did vote against their own voices. The sense that everything will be fine no matter what that voters felt during the Obama years has been shattered. Donald Trump is the consequence for voting against your own self-interest, or not getting involved.
Something tells me that millions of Americans won’t make the same mistake again in 2018 and 2020.
