Trump tried to claim to reporters that Senate Republicans have the votes to pass Obamacare repeal, but they can’t because a Senator is in the hospital, which is a lie.

Trump said, “On healthcare, we have the votes. We can’t do it now because we have somebody in the hospital. We have great respect for that gentleman, by the way, he’s a fantastic man.”

When asked why does it matter, Trump said, “Because he has to come here and vote because he can’t come here and vote. In other words, he can’t come here and vote, because he’s in the hospital.”

Sen. Thad Cochran of Mississippi was who Trump was referring to, and the Senator’s own office has said that he is not in the hospital:

The President is lying to buy himself more time. Senate Republicans don’t want to vote on Graham-Cassidy next year. They don’t want taking away people’s health insurance to be an election year issue. Trump is hoping that people will forget about his promise to have a healthcare vote in January, February, or March.

Republicans don’t have the votes. You can clearly hear a reporter say to Trump in the video that Republicans don’t have the votes. There are 52 Republicans in the Senate. The reporter asked why it matters because if Trump is correct and they have the votes, there would still be enough votes to pass without Cochran.

Trump lied, got caught, and his only response was to keep repeating the lie as if repetition will make it true.

Donald Trump isn’t pretending that he lives in reality anymore. Trump is off in fantasy land, and he expects the American people to buy his delusions.
