Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) told MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell that Speaker of the House Paul Ryan is intentionally helping Trump slow down the Russia investigation in Congress and cover up the President’s potential crimes.
Rep. Swalwell talked about Paul Ryan’s role in slowing down the House’s Russia investigation, “It doesn’t have to be this way, and Paul Ryan is greenlighting all of this. He’s allowed Devin Nunes to recuse himself, but still issue what I think are non-relevant subpoenas. He’s allowed these new investigations to open. I think for Democrats as part of our case for why we want to be in the majority in 2018 is that we will govern responsibly and focused on what Americans care about when it comes to the freedom to choose in our democracy.”
As soon as Paul Ryan allowed Trump to use the House to try to kill the congressional Russia investigation, he became part of the cover-up. Both Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell have used their positions to help Trump’s efforts to cover-up the Russia scandal.
The Russia scandal is a Republican Party scandal. Paul Ryan sold out his country and is protecting a criminal president because all he cares about are tax cuts for rich people and gutting the social safety net of Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.
Speaker Ryan may not have been directly involved in the Trump campaign’s activities with Russia during the campaign, but as they say, the cover-up is worse than the crime. In the case of Paul Ryan, the cover-up could cost Republicans the House.
