During an interview on MSNBC’s All In With Chris Hayes, Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA) said that Attorney General Jeff Sessions lied under oath to the House Judiciary Committee.
When asked by Chris Hayes if Sessions was forthright and truthful with the committee, Lieu answered, “Absolutely not, and what’s remarkable is that the American public is watching in plain view the Attorney General lie under oath. He made several statements today that were different than the statements he made under oath to US Senate just a few weeks ago. That’s unacceptable.
Rep. Lieu pointed out that Sessions is not telling a different story about his knowledge of communications with Russia. Lieu said that we’ve seen this pattern happen before with Sessions. Lieu said that Sessions lied on his security clearance form as well, and added that it isn’t just one false statement that the Attorney General has made.
Ted Lieu said that Sessions said I don’t recall so many times that he should see a doctor because he has severe memory loss.
The only thing preventing Sessions from being charged with perjury is the Republican control of Congress. The Attorney General is lying under oath with reckless abandon because he knows that he is protected by Republicans in the House and Senate.
If you want to see Jeff Sessions go down for perjury, the best way to make that happen is to give Democrats control of Congress next year. Sessions is already in hot water, but it will be absolutely boiling if Democrats take back the House.
