Sen. Lindsey Graham Paints A Picture Of A Doomed GOP If Roy Moore Wins In Alabama

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) painted a picture of a doomed Republican Party that will be defined by Roy Moore in 2018 and beyond if he wins the Alabama Senate election.

Video:

Sen. Graham said, “If you’re running in 2018 as a Republican, Roy Moore become yours best friend. You will be asked about 10,000 times what do you think about Roy Moore. Roy Moore will be the gift that keeps on giving for Democrats and define the 2018 election, at least 2018, and to think you can elect Roy Moore without getting the baggage of Roy Moore is pretty naive. I wished he would have stepped aside. They’re going to have the election tomorrow. We’ll see what the people of Alabama say. But the Senate will also speak. There’s a process within the Senate to regulate membership of the body. From a political point of view there is no winning with Roy Moore in my view.”

If the voters of Alabama send Roy Moore to the Senate, Republicans will have to choose between leaving Moore alone and wrecking the party, or expelling him. It sounds like there is a lot of consensus within the Republican caucus that if Roy Moore wins, he should be expelled. The problem is that President Trump is firmly backing Moore, and Mitch McConnell is already showing signs of giving Trump what he wants.

The Republican Party will be defined as the party of child molesters if Roy Moore wins. There is no escaping it. Even if Republicans expel Moore, the damage will have been done. Every Senate Republican candidate will have to deal with endless Roy Moore questions, and Lindsey Graham was right. The outlook for the Republican Party if Roy Moore wins will go from bleak to doomed in 2018 and beyond.
