As Ryan claimed that he was giving hard working people their money back, protesters interrupted his remarks on the House floor by shouting “liar” at him.
Video:
Ryan said, “My colleagues, this is a day I’ve been looking forward to for a long time. We are about to achieve some really big things. Things that the cynics have scoffed at for years, decades even. Ideas that have been worked on for so long, to help hardworking Americans who have been left behind for too long. Today, today we are giving the people of this country their money back. This is their money.”
As Ryan was speaking protesters shouting liar at the Speaker of the House had to be cleared from the gallery. Notice that Speaker Ryan never said who these hardworking Americans were who are getting their money back. It has long been a talking point in conservative circles that the “real hard-working Americans” are rich people who are overtaxed and deserve their money back.
America isn’t buying what Ryan and the Republicans are selling. Everyone who tax cut really benefits. It would be wise for Paul Ryan to close his mouth, quietly take the money that he is stealing from 100 million Americans, and run.
