Sarah Huckabee Sanders Crazily Claims That Trump Can’t Be A Racist Because He Was On TV

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders claimed that Trump couldn’t possibly be a racist because NBC gave him a television show.

Video:

Huckabee Sanders said, “I think if the critics of the president were who he said he was, why did NBC give him a show for a decade on TV? Why did Chuck Schumer and all of his colleagues come and beg Donald Trump for money? If he is who they want to try to portray him as, why did they want to, you know, be with him for years and years in various activities, whether it was events and fund-raisers and other things? I think it’s just an outrageous and ludicrous excuse and they need to get on board and start doing what they were elected to do.”

Sanders’ defense of Trump makes no sense, because being on television is not a barometer of potentially racists views. Throughout most of its history, television has been a racist industry that reinforced racial stereotypes. In fact, one could argue that The Apprentice is one of these shows, as it portrays the stereotypical and highly fictionalized white New York business mogel who other people, non-whites included compete to please. There are still racial barriers that are yet to be broken down in television, so saying that someone was on TV so they aren’t racist is a poor defense at best.

Huckabee Sanders could have said that Trump is racist because he likes chocolate ice cream and her argument would have been just as illogical.

Being on television does not purify a human being. Trump could be on TV and still be a racist.

The White House is running out of defenses for Trump’s comments and is now throwing crazy against the wall to see what sticks.
