Senate Republican leadership is scrambling to correct the false information that Trump put out via his Twitter account that has the GOP on the path to a government shutdown.
Trump tweeted:
CHIP should be part of a long term solution, not a 30 Day, or short term, extension!

The CR contains a six-year extension for CHIP as part of the GOP effort to convince Democrats to ignore DACA and let them off of the hook.
The second-ranking Republican in the Senate, Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) rushed to correct Trump’s fake news:
The current house Continuing Resolution package has a six-year extension of CHIP, not a 30 day extension
— Senator John Cornyn (@JohnCornyn) January 18, 2018
The CHIP extension is the only part of the CR that is bipartisan, so of course, that is the part of the legislation that Trump hates. The new drama created by Trump’s Twitter account is following the same pattern as when Trump almost killed the FISA section 702 renewal with an inaccurate tweet flip-flop.
Trump has no idea what is in legislation, or what is going on.
If the government shuts down tomorrow night, it will be the perfect way to mark the first year anniversary of the beginning of Trump’s malevolent presidential ineptitude.
Trump wants a government shutdown, and he is sabotaging any efforts by the members of his own party to prevent it from happening.
